I’m no expert here, but my understanding is that Prisco succeeded DiGilio as NJ capo. So while Prisco was from Harlem/the Bx and many of his guys were from NY, he was in charge of a formally Jersey-based crew by the late ‘80s. I don’t think that his base in NJ was just the product of the stipulations of his parole. Maybe I’m wrong.
On another note, Wikipedia has Prisco as born in Melrose Park, IL. I haven’t been able to verify this so I’m not sure if it’s factual. From what I can tell, his father was Anthony Prisco, whose family was from Sarno, Salerno and there were/are Priscos in Chicago from Sarno, so there could be a link.
Nice. Good stuff. Highly doubt he was born in Melrose Park IL but I could be wrong. Weren't there other East Harlem Priscos made and/or affilated with the Genovese as well?
I remember reading somewhere that Prisco was the "boss" of the Genovese in NJ. Another time remember reading that Tony Palumbo was, too. I don't think this was really even a thing; they were just Capos. I could be wrong but did the Genovese in modern (post Vito) times ever have a single guy in NJ that all the other NJ Capos reported or deferred to?

According to the 1989 NJ report, DiGilio was a soldier. After his murder, his territory was split between Prisco and Salvatore Lombardo. Part of Prisco's territory was the Bayonne-Jersey waterfront and ILA Local 1588 had a couple indictments in the early 2000's. Of course, LaScala took over afterward. From the sound of it, there weren't many guys under him in Jersey by that point. It was him and a bunch of associates charged in 2014.
The feds did say that Danny Leo put Palumbo in charge of Jersey operations for the family. There's obviously been some discussion about what that means exactly. Palumbo's crew is Brooklyn-based.

Nice thank you. So DiGilio died as a solider? I always mistakenly thought he was a Capo. When was Prisco elevated to Capo? I'll have to check the crew succession thread lol. I forget what a good resource that is sometimes
I thought Prisco was sent away because of home invasions done by non made and non italian crew. Mostly suburb homes I think it was.
I also think there were a lot of priscos in the Morristown area any relation?

According to Visconti, doing 3-5 years wasn't a problem for him. He was a first-time offender; the original prosecutor was willing to make almost any deal in order to close the case asap. He flipped because The Horn fucked him over. Visconti wanted to plead guilty, Prisco told him no. Nobody was going to plead guilty, then Prisco plead guilty behind Visconti's back. Elie Honig pretty much confirms this. The FBI had to put in work to find a prosecutor willing to build a case based on Visconti's info.
Even with Prisco pleading out, after telling Visconti not to, was Visconti still facing around 5 years or would it have been significantly more? Trying to figure out where he felt betrayed enough to cooperate so quickly.

Yeah he was a soldier, albeit an influential one. What sealed his fate were some foolish moves he made that resulted in the Genovese family temporarily losing control of the local to the Gambinos. This was part of what led to Bobby Manna, etc. plotting the deaths of John and Gene Gotti - them encroaching on traditional Genovese turf. Digilio, of course, ended up floating in the Hackensack River.

Yes, it was for murder, the home invasion crew, etc in 2008. I meant that Bayonne/Jersey City and Local 1588 was his territory. But he wasn't caught up in those earlier waterfront cases. It was associates who were union officials.

Prisco is an interesting guy for sure. Probably one of the more higher profile Genovese guys in modern times, and there's still not a ton known about him.
I'm trying to figure out how he ended up in Jersey and when he did, was the crew he was running considered one of the famed Jersey crews the Genovese have (like the Coppola, Bruschi, etc. crews)? Or did he run a Bronx crew from Jersey? He was an East Harlem guy, then went up to the Bronx . On the show it said he couldn't leave the state of NJ due to his release conditions. Did he move there himself, or did he just catch a case there and had to stay due to the parole?
Another interesting thing was that for a Harlem guy and a Purple Gang member, Mario Gigante out of all people was his inroad into the Genovese.
There's footage around of Prisco at that feast they still give in East Harlem in the summer, can't recall the name. Gotta be from the 70s or 80s. Its unreal to see Prisco strut around in it. Looked like a movie stereotype of a gangster before there even was a movie stereotype
Prisco was put in jersey after Johnny D got hit and Aurricchio went to jail for tax evasion. He was put in charge of the Bayonne LongShore Union. All the guys like Pepe Lascala and Johnny Ds crew were put under him. Plus he has his Bronx guys as well. Prisco moving into NJ is what made Mammone move to FL and get linked up with the Trafficantes. I don't thinl Prisco and Mammone got along. Which is a good thing for Mammone because Mammone old partner in Crime stayed with Prisco and went down for the Murder on Prisco;s cousin when Johnny Balls flipped.
There was a jail house informant from rhode island who testified against prisco. He was a bank robber and prisco took to liking him. He told him he was inducted in 1979 by chin. And some other stuff. The guys testimony was in some newspaper. Wasnt anything great but a few nuggets. I cant remember most
Interesting info I found about Visconti... I wondered if Prisco knew about this beforehand...
Visconti is tied by marriage to Louis Mongelli Sr. Mongelli is the former Orange County Sanitation owner who disappeared into the witness protection program in 1990 after pleading guilty to tax evasion and racketeering and testifying against the Mafia

This was a great podcast, one of the best without a doubt. Looking forward to their future episodes.
“Our guys had mothball holes in their sweaters, but they had $50 million.”
“[Prisco was a captain, meaning that] he controlled an area for them.”
More examples of the subtle cultural similarities between the Genovese and Chicago.
Just as counterpoint, Ray DeCarlo was recorded in the 1960s saying no family or crew in NJ had official territorial jurisdiction except the DeCavalcantes in Elizabeth.
There is definitely defacto territory given many Genovese crews can trace their history back to old
neighborhood crews without being broken up.
They also have a long history of appointing someone the representative over NJ, with Moretti, Catena, and later Fiumara said to have this status. Maybe Prisco carried out a similar role, like someone said above.
From what I understand, Prisco's link to the Village crew and thus Benny Eggs Mangano is another possible factor to him ending up being NJ. Apparently at least some NJ guys reported to Eggs (via Johnny Sausage).
Listening to episode 3, I really enjoy this podcast. In the beginning of ep3 the host mentions Todd LaBarca being caught on a wire talking about a murder. Is this the guy who was Hootie Russo's brother inlaw? I've seen people say Hootie threw him under the bus. Haven't finished the episode so IDK if he mentions LaBarca again, but I found it interesting.

About to check it out now. Just listened to the Murray episode the other day - that was great.
I think Hootie married LaBarca's sister. Not sure what Hootie did to him, but for whatever it's worth, LaBarca was caught on tape admitting to his own participation in a planned and coordinated first degree murder - and Hootie wasn't the person who was taping.
