This is a really good answer. This was one of the biggest blunders in LCN's modern era, by far. Just stupidity from top to bottom. This should really take away the allure of the Genovese a little, too. I'm going out on a limb guessing that this kid got DeBello's approval (for the hit itself, not for how it was planned) - and combined with what he had going on money wise, he figured if this were handled, he'd be potentially proposed for membership. You'd think it'd be handled a LOT better if that were on the line. It's funny because it seems like DeBello's most competent and serious guy was a non-Italian who couldn't even be made - the rest of the guys in that crew, the Italians, seemed like idiots.
Back in 2009, the head of the FBI's OC program said that the Genovese family "keeps their hit teams small." What Delgatti did is an obvious departure from that. Sub-contracting it out to other groups obviously has its risks too.

I'm no hitman but, just at first glance from a distance, it seems the safest approach would be to keep a hit in-house and use as small a number of trusted people to carry it out as possible.

Gotti and Co. get a lot of kudos for the Castellano/Bilotti hit but, considering how many people involved they had at the scene, that could have gone wrong any number of ways. They were very lucky. But even then, as we've seen, the more people involved, the more potential for someone to eventually talk.

I wonder if Debello got in trouble for that from his higher ups. It was really stupid and if there's any reason to shelf a guy, that's at the top of the list. At the same time practically no heat came to the Genovese at all (I don't even think we know for sure who Debello even reports to) so I could see them saying fuck it. I mean the guy is old as hell and had his bail revoked a few days before Christmas, gotta be rough. Just seemed like such a weird change of pace for the genovese

Farming the hit on Al Bruno to Roche was also foolish. Meanwhile, whichever hit teams made Ralph Coppola disappear, stuck Larry Ricci in a trunk, and popped Rudy Izzi (assuming that was an internal hit) apparently did things right.

I remember PB saying on another forum one time that he saw Ralphie Coppola about a week before he disappeared in the Bronx and the guy looked like he didnt have a worry in the world...eerie to think he never saw it coming...

Agreed bluehouse. Allie Boy was smart in that manner, he knew Deleo’s loyalty was to just Allie Boy. Allie Boy also knew that his & his father’s word was law on the street and it was a smart move to mitigate another Orena situation.

Anthony st. Laurent from the Providence LCN has to be another choice for an inept made guy as he offered contracts to kill Deluca to an undercover cop and an informant for the FBI.

Other than what we know from Gravano saying that he was not a smart guy what do we know specifically that he did that was considered an inept move(s) Aside from giving the OK to extort Steven Seagal after he refused the first one or two times after not working with them the Gambino’s for a decade or so I believe

For whatever reason Peter sent Sonny Ciccone to the extortion meeting that ended up being taped by the FBI. Sunny should not be at extortion meetings because he is a captain

Oh, okay. Do you know this for a fact?

I’d still like to know what things people thought peter gotto did as don that was stupid. I can’t believe he became the boss…Obviously he got it through his brothers but what about captain votes after Gotti dies?

Joe Siciliano really fucked up with that horsemeat shit, though I’m not sure how much of the shitstorm was really due to his own ineptitude.

Ivan wrote: Sun Jul 25, 2021 8:29 pm If we're going back 30 years like the OP says then I nominate pretty much anyone made by Stanfa who wasn't part of the Merlino crew. Veasey, Martines, Pagano, his gaggle of fucktarded zips.

I'm declaring myself the winner of this thread because I doubt if anyone will be able to name a more ridiculous made guy than the half-French smackhead dingaling that is John-John Veasey.
As fucked up as Veasey was , He killed Michael Ciancaglini and put a cap in Merlinos ass, Might have won the war if Merlino died that day, As Maxwell Smart would say ...Missed by this much
Yeah he was good at killing people, I'll give him that. Killed Baldino, too. That doesn't change the fact that he was a freakish retard who had no business being anywhere near Cosa Nostra. Didn't Martines randomly recruit him on a construction site?
The Veasey family is in South Jersey now. I actually took his niece to homecoming in 2000 or so. I’ve heard some funny stories about John.

I dont think he was the only guy guilty for the screw up.

Im not sure if Siciliano was ever made but this guy controlled his own crew which included Meyer Ditlove, Russell Minnea, Anthony Rossi, Rudy Angelicchio, Robert Klotz, Frank Meara, Virgil McGanty and Joel Miller. Almost all of these guys were involved in the meat racket.

Now, it is also possible that Siciliano either answered to Paul Labriola or they were business partners. During that period Labriola already transferred or belonged to the EP crew and was possibly direct with Accardo which might mean that the line was Accardo-Labriola-Siciliano.

So, story goes that one of Sicilianos guys Joel Miller made some mistake and he had to go. I never found out what was Millers mistake, but instead all I know is that his dead body was pulled out from the Illinois River. Maybe Miller pushed the wrong people in the meat business or maybe went too far with his intimidating methods, and so the Outfit had to make an example out of him...just a guess.

All I know is that the biggest problem was when the goverment realized that Siciliano was in fact a mere tool for Accardo and Labriola, and Accardos problem was the mentioning of both Ricca and Campagna during the investigations. Both Ricca and Campagna were still under the feds radar at the time because of their early releases from the late 40s.

Years later or during the late 50s, according to one wiretapped convo, two unknown Outfit guys still trash talked Accardo for bringing Siciliano into the scheme and fuckin up the whole thing.
