LCN hits outside of the U.S.

Post by slimshady_007 »

What are some cases of American Mafiosi being tracked down and killed in other countries? The only case that I’m aware of is Genovese soldier Joe Barone Sr being stabbed to death in Honduras in 1992. His death was also reportedly authorized by Genovese leaders. Anyone know of any others?

Not American per se but the Rizzutos had Moreno Gallo whacked in Acapulco. They also had Joe Bravo and his Portugese buddy murdered in Sicily.

Paul Volpe killed in Canada possibly at the behest of the Philadelphia crime family in the early 80’s.

That's Peter McNeil in 1998. But....I'm not sure the Detroit mob was actually involved in that. McNeil had testified about a Detroit mob/UK drug ring plan that fell apart in the 80s. But he had also informed on the IRA. He was living under an assumed name and a guy who's former wife he was seeing figured out who he was and the government says he reached out to some people to let them know where he was and he ended up getting killed. I kind of doubt the McNeil hit involved the Detroit mob directly. More likely local gangsters or the IRA. In my mind, at the most someone in the UK may have told the Giacalones they knew where he was and the Giacalones might have been fine with him getting killed or said okay do it. That case he testified in involving Detroit was not a huge case and no one important went away. The only big issue would have been the loss of revenue everyone was expecting.

Supposedly wasn't Jay Vandermark killed in Costa Rica by the Chicago mob? And wasn't Phil Abramo from the Decavalcantes linked to a couple murders in the Bahamas?

Didn't really happen fellas, as much as I love that scene in Casino. The FBI somehow got the idea (as reported by Roemer in "The Enforcer") that he was hunted down and killed in Latin America. This was combined with the Jerry Lisner hit (the one where Culotta, playing himself in the movie hilariously enough, chased a guy around his house) for the movie. Sadly during Family Secrets it came out that Vandermark was strangled in a motel in Arizona and buried out in the desert somewhere. He's still there, presumably. Someone should erect a monument in his memory.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

The jagoff went to Arizona, permanently.

Interesting. I missed that in the Family Secrets trial. Did they provide any info on who they thought did it?
