Mob-linked contractor again cheating workers: lawsuit
Rovini Concrete's Vincent Zollo accused of not paying overtime at 577 Ninth Avenue
October 26, 2015

A contractor with a history of mob ties and prison time is being sued by workers at 577 Ninth Avenue in Hell’s Kitchen.

Vincent Zollo, principal of Rovini Concrete Corp, a subcontractor on the hotel project, will face civil claims that he forced workers to stay on the job as much as 60 hours a week without overtime.

Zollo earned about $10 million in city construction contracts in the 1990s through Zollo Construction Corp. In 1998, he pleaded guilty to racketeering charges in connection to his work with John Gotti Jr., the son of the notorious Gambino crime family boss. Zollo served four years in prison and paid more than $117,000 in fines.

He finishing making payments in June, DNAinfo reported.

The Friedman Group and the Landis Group are building a 25-story, 170,000-square-foot pod hotel at the site, which is also known as 400 West 42nd Street and 400 Times Square. The project features retail on the bottom two floors and 527 pod-style hotels above. Rooms will go for $225 per night, The Real Deal reported previously.

The general contractor on the project is BRF Construction Corp.

A construction worker, Angel Munoz, died at the site in August when he fell down an elevator shaft. OSHA is still investigating the accident. [DNAinfo] – Ariel Stulberg
