Little Allie Boy Persico & Jack DeRoss acted pretty stupid after they set up the Wild Bill murder. They couldn’t make it anymore obvious that they had him killed. Visiting the Cutolos’ and trying to intimidate them, stealing Bill’s loansharking records, implying to Colombo outsiders (other families) that they whacked Cutolo, etc. It was so obvious that the feds didn’t even need a body to convict them of the homicide in court. Not slick at all.

They also miscalculated the likelihood of Bill's son becoming a rat, which was another stupid move on their part

Don't forget Allie Boy calling Cutolo several times the day before the murder on a phone he knew the Feds were monitoring. That is hall of fame level stupidity.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

This is a really good answer. This was one of the biggest blunders in LCN's modern era, by far. Just stupidity from top to bottom. This should really take away the allure of the Genovese a little, too. I'm going out on a limb guessing that this kid got DeBello's approval (for the hit itself, not for how it was planned) - and combined with what he had going on money wise, he figured if this were handled, he'd be potentially proposed for membership. You'd think it'd be handled a LOT better if that were on the line. It's funny because it seems like DeBello's most competent and serious guy was a non-Italian who couldn't even be made - the rest of the guys in that crew, the Italians, seemed like idiots.
Back in 2009, the head of the FBI's OC program said that the Genovese family "keeps their hit teams small." What Delgatti did is an obvious departure from that. Sub-contracting it out to other groups obviously has its risks too.

I'm no hitman but, just at first glance from a distance, it seems the safest approach would be to keep a hit in-house and use as small a number of trusted people to carry it out as possible.

Gotti and Co. get a lot of kudos for the Castellano/Bilotti hit but, considering how many people involved they had at the scene, that could have gone wrong any number of ways. They were very lucky. But even then, as we've seen, the more people involved, the more potential for someone to eventually talk.

Big John paid for that, but his fuck-up led indirectly to Family Secrets, as Nicky Calabrese accidentally dropped the gloves he used in the Feccarotta hit in an alley, and years later they were able to link it to him via forensic analysis, leading to Nick C beefing on the Outfit.
I think that this was used as a motive for Fecarotta's murder prior to Nick Calabrese's cooperation. He may have had a hand in transporting the bodies but the Heights crew was the one ultimately responsible for botching the Spilotro burials. He was killed for other indiscretions, apparently unrelated to the Spilotros.
I'm not too familiar with Chicago OC, but wasn't philandering on his wife a major beef the upper echelon had with him? I read or heard that somewhere.
As with most LCN hits, it was a number of things.

Thanks, I hadn’t revisited this in a while and you’re correct that Nicky C never seems to have mentioned Feccarotta as playing a role in the Spilotro burial shenanigans. Feccarotta apparently moved Mikey Spilotro’s car. IIRC, Tocco’s responsibility for the botched burials was part of why his wife stated that he was afraid that Joe Nagal was going to clip him.

Feccarotta was definitely a fuck up otherwise though and pissed off the bosses by making a number of dumb mistakes when he was part of the failed hit team sent to Vegas to whack the Spilotros. Per Frankie C Jr’s book, Big John also owed money to DiFronzo and poached a juice loan client, Richie Urso, from Frank Sr. Frank Sr had a sit down with Feccarotta, which went poorly, and per the Frankie Jr book that was when Carlisi green-lighted the hit on Big John.

It’s John Pennisi.

The funniest part is Pennisi actually thought someone might kill him.

Why? He didn’t do anything and wasn’t important enough to kill.

Pennisi is the right answer to this post.
Crea Sr. got a phone sneaked in?

And Billy Jrs family shunned him as a result of the cooperation...

Thank you for clarifying it...soon as you mentioned Albert Tocco I remember reading the story about his wife...idk why I got Fecarotta mixed up in that...

Well, for several years it was assumed that Fecarotta was a part of that until Nick Calabrese flipped.

Calabrese flipping sure did answer alot of questions about that family...the one question we will never know, but speculate about, is how in the hell Johnny DiFronzo wasn't indicted in Family Secrets...
