Why did Vic and Gas green light a hit on Anthony DiLapi after he got out of prison?

He was a nephew of Tom Mix Santoro. Amuso and Casso believed he was part of a plot with Santoro and Anthony Luongo to take over the family and keep control of it in the Bronx. Luongo was obviously killed in 1986. DiLapi was called in to a meeting with Amuso and Casso but didn't go and fled to California, so he got killed.

I didn't know about the plot. My guess was it had something to do with the Garment District and he got hit like Mikey Pappadio...thank u chin

I believe you are correct on this. Based on the info that was made public about this murder. And D'Arco's kid was part of the hit team sent out to LA to kill him in the parking garage

Wonder if without Casso and his paranoia Vic would have hit so many big earners in that family...

As bad as Amuso and Casso were for the Luccese family there weren't always in the wrong. I mean Pappadio was robbing the family wouldn't be suprised if someone like DiLapi was as well.

I thought the issue with Pappadio was him refusing to hand over his interests in the Garment District...D'Arco was robbing the family blind as acting boss but ran to the Feds before gettin the clip...

Pappadio was killed in a money power grab, that’s it.

The garment racket dried up after Mikes death so it was a terrible decision

The same with the other Bronx captain killed who had the land fills

Casso was an idiot as he killed his best guys in their best rackets guys . He was not a smart man

I think it's more of the garment racket really dried up because these guys - and globalization - made it next to impossible to do business in New York It made no sense to do anything in Manhattan anymore. The trade is still there to a small degree but it was only a matter of time before everyone got out. Even if Pappadio made it, he would have eventually gotten locked up or died naturally before serving his sentence and these shops would have been naturally closed due to attrition

Ok. Where is that info coming from that both of them robbed? Did Pappadio rob or did he just balk and was he right to bulk? How did darco rob?

It seems repeated prosecutions did a good job of removing the mob out of of the garment center and the decline of the industry removed any incentive to attempt to maintain a presence there.
All roads lead to New York.

Pappadio was alleged to have been "hiding shops" and keeping a lot of business of record. When he was asked to turn in books he was called out for keeping two different sets of records. There was another Garment guy who got in the ear of Amuso and put Pappadio on the radar.

Even if it was true who wouldn't have done the same thing? These Bronx guys were older and entrenched in these pretty old school complex grift rackets that someone like Amuso who didn't come up doing garment center racketeering wouldn't fully understand. It'd be super tempting and easy to hold back money in that situation, especially if you resent the guys who took over the family, on top of it
