I also agree that there was probably a decina before Pinelli arrived in NW Indiana, but I personally dont have a clue about who was the official one...maybe Formosa or Costello or Gianni, who knows?! Costello was killed by the late 1930s which makes the situation ever more complicated regarding the following decade or 1940s. Someone in the past said that it was Formosa but im not 100% sure....PolackTony wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 10:06 pmThanks. If there really was a formal decina that Pinelli took over as capo, there likely were others before him. Not an area that I know much about. Given that he had been in the Chicago area for decades, one wonders if Paolo Perconti had previously been affiliated with the old Gary or Heights families, or if he was with the Chicago family and moved operations down to Gary later.Villain wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 9:49 pm1952.
It is possible that previously or from the early 1930s onward, the Northwest Indana area was overseen by guys like Sam Costello, Joe Gianni, the Micellis etc. When Costello got eliminated, other guys entered the scene such as John Formosa and Jack Doyle. When the Doyle situation blew up, thats when Accardo, Giancana and Ferraro brought Pinelli from LA as the new capo for the crew. Previously Pinelli also had interests around the Near North, Grand and possibly Taylor St.
It would be interesting to see if former Northsiders like Tommy Morgano were already established in Indiana before Pinellis arrival, or they arrived at the same time with him...

Re: General Chicago Outfit Info Dumping Ground
Perconti must have associated with Paolo Palazzolo, a top mafioso in Gary with close ties to other top Chicago / CH leaders. Palazzolo went to the 1928 Cleveland meet so he knew Lolordo and Bacino. Bacino's Indiana connections make it likely he knew everyone out there. There are the other Bacino relatives/associates we talked about in that area also. Tony Pinelli and Bacino must have associated given the mutual ties to DeGeorge and Amari.
The presidents of uniones and compaesani mutual aid societies were often the top mafia leaders, so good indication Paolo Perconti was significant in the mafia alongside Paolo Palazzolo.

Both Bacino and Soldano commanded respect among the North, Heights and Indiana crews so everything is possible.B. wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 11:09 pm Perconti must have associated with Paolo Palazzolo, a top mafioso in Gary with close ties to other top Chicago / CH leaders. I still question on whether there was an official Indana crew after all the killings that occurred, or there were simply guys who joined the Capone-Roberto group and operated there under their jurisdiction, until Pinelli took over who was probably still overseen by the Heights crew...just a theory...the Outfit obviously needed someone who they can trust and to control the area for them...the crew completely changed when Pinelli became capo, meaning there were only few guys left from the old days...

The Miccolis (or Miccalis) family was also present in Indiana starting from the Prohibition era until the mid or late 1960s...that same family even intermarried with Sicilian members from that area...Villain wrote: ↑Fri Jul 23, 2021 12:00 amBoth Bacino and Soldano commanded respect among the North, Heights and Indiana crews so everything is possible.B. wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 11:09 pm Perconti must have associated with Paolo Palazzolo, a top mafioso in Gary with close ties to other top Chicago / CH leaders. Yeah, Nick Stella was CPD and collecting for Vince DelGiudice’s gambling ring. Not specifically named as an Outfit-associated operation, but it’s a pretty good guess that it was.Antiliar wrote: ↑Fri Jul 23, 2021 5:06 pm Anybody post this already? Outfit connected?

Correct me if I’m wrong but I think it was verified as being Outfit connected when it was confirmed by the FEDs as being connected to Paloian’s operation.PolackTony wrote: ↑Fri Jul 23, 2021 6:28 pmYeah, Nick Stella was CPD and collecting for Vince DelGiudice’s gambling ring. Some more info:PolackTony wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 10:07 pmThanks for the info on Nicky C’s testimony.Snakes wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 8:54 pm To clarify Joe Amato's position at the time of the Last Supper photo: he was described by Nick C as a capo but "wasn't doing too much" at the time and believed to be "semi-retired." This jives with his files at the time which describe minimal activity. Regarding Amato's background: Amato was associated with Willie Daddano as early as the 1940s and was part of his cartage and jewel theft gang. He and Daddano gained a reputation as enforcers and around 1950, Daddano placed Amato in charge of McHenry County, succeeding Louis Cernocky. While conducting a search warrant on Accardo's home in 1978, FBI agents observed a photograph of Amato hanging on the wall in the home. It should be noted that Amato was direct with Accardo for many years and was the only Outfit figure observed at Accardo's funeral in 1992.
c. 1976, Amato expressed a desire to retire. The informant also described Amato as wishing to keep the Lake County area "in his family" but would be acceptive of anyone Accardo wishes to place in control. Informant concluded by saying the leadership in the area is "up for grabs."

Re: General Chicago Outfit Info Dumping Ground
Thanks again, great info. Given that Amato was from Berwyn, his long-standing association with Daddono (who by 1940 at least was in North Riverside) makes perfect sense.Snakes wrote: ↑Sat Jul 24, 2021 8:43 amSome more info:PolackTony wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 10:07 pmThanks for the info on Nicky C’s testimony.Snakes wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 8:54 pm To clarify Joe Amato's position at the time of the Last Supper photo: he was described by Nick C as a capo but "wasn't doing too much" at the time and believed to be "semi-retired." Also interesting that we may see another apparent reference by a CI there to Outfit crews as “families” (a la Gerry DeNono).

Re: General Chicago Outfit Info Dumping Ground
That Last Supper photo coindence or not was downfall too many. One I never understood about Amato, did his younger wife really have him arrested for forging that insurance check? I mean these guys in "the life" always have strong view points about controlling their wife and ppl who can't and there's an example of someone who can't I wonder how that played out among the top ranking guys and their opinions of that situation..."embrassing?" No?

In this Chicago Sun-Times article DelGiudice is linked to Paloian:Patrickgold wrote: ↑Sat Jul 24, 2021 12:34 amCorrect me if I’m wrong but I think it was verified as being Outfit connected when it was confirmed by the FEDs as being connected to Paloian’s operation.PolackTony wrote: ↑Fri Jul 23, 2021 6:28 pmYeah, Nick Stella was CPD and collecting for Vince DelGiudice’s gambling ring. Paloian has a 50-year history, so he probably goes back to Ferriola, maybe Torello and Buccieri:

Re: General Chicago Outfit Info Dumping Ground
Something interesting John Alite said. I know, he's a known liar, but I don't think he has a reason to lie about this. Alite was in one prison unit in the 1990s and Solly DeLaurentis was in the next one. He said DeLaurentis was a captain in the Chicago Family, so evidently he was given the title after Joe Amato was forced to retire allegedly in 1983 following a sit down. Alite also said that DeLaurentis claimed he was the acting underboss. Assuming this is true, I wonder what he meant by that and when that would fit in the timeline. (I'm not interested in the beef between Alite and Jimmy Calandra on slapping Gene Gotti and pushing Solly D into the snow, it's like a couple of kids fighting.)Snakes wrote: ↑Sat Jul 24, 2021 8:43 amSome more info:PolackTony wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 10:07 pmThanks for the info on Nicky C’s testimony.Snakes wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 8:54 pm To clarify Joe Amato's position at the time of the Last Supper photo: he was described by Nick C as a capo but "wasn't doing too much" at the time and believed to be "semi-retired." In my old charts I have Cernocky under Daddono but i never knew that the guy used to be that big. I think Cernocky went all the way to the days of ProhibitionSnakes wrote: ↑Sat Jul 24, 2021 8:43 am
