- Stefanelli says that his captain (Jimmy Dellaratta) was able to keep Stefanelli with their crew by saying "Nicky (Stefanelli) is with Lenny" (DiMaria). From surrounding talk, it sounds like Lenny DiMaria was responsible for bringing Stefanelli in with the Corozzo crew and they used this fact to keep Stefanelli with that crew instead of the Jersey crew under "Jimmy Balls." However, Stefanelli was told by Dellaratta it was "up in the air" where Stefanelli would ultimately belong.
- Licata asks if John (Gambino) or his brother Joe has any say in what crew Stefanelli will belong. Licata says they will take the Gambino brothers out to dinner a few times in order to "pump it up" to help Stefanelli stay under the Corozzo crew.
- Stefanelli says "John's the administration" and mentions JoJo Corozzo, but Licata says "Jojo's officially under him", meaning Corozzo ranks lower than John Gambino.
- Licata says "Nobody's the boss" of the Gambino family and Stefanelli says something about someone being "acting" but says "Pete Gotti's really the boss." Licata says Gotti has a "big beef with the triumvirate."
- Stefanelli says if "they don't beat the case, then it's Joe Watts". Licata asks if Watts is in prison and Stefanelli says Watts is "protected" which puts Licata into disbelief. The context seems to suggest that Joe Watts could be seen as a potential family leader (?) but the comment about him being "protected" suggests he may have cooperated.
B wrote:- Stefanelli says Andy Merola recommended putting Nick Stefanelli in charge of the carpenter union instead of "Tony". This carpenter union he said belongs to Nicky Corozzo which is why Corozzo crew member Stefanelli was put in charge. A "Marty" was involved with Andy Merola in this union situation, probably Marty Taccetta, and there was a dispute with someone, probably "Tony", who appears as a troublemaker throughout the entire discussion.
- Stefanelli says the Gambino administration gave "Jimmy Balls" control over the NJ union locals because he is the captain. He says "Jimmy Balls" made a lot of money and "helped everybody." However, this as a source of conflict, as the carpenter's union belonged to Corozzo even though it was in Jersey and Stefanelli and the Corozzo crew were fighting to keep the local under their people.
I can't figure our what locals in New Jersey these would be, especially the carpenters.

Merola isn’t made. He used his mother’s maiden name so he would sound Italian. Got caught up trying to rip off Home Depot
He was a captain.
He was a Soldier as far as I know and was reporting to NY. I don't believe there is a Captain for the Gambino's in NJ anymore. He and Buddy Musk were the only made members caught up in that bust I believe. That's why I'd like to know more about this Danny Gooms guy. Never heard of him. If he is real..I would imagine he was an associate of Merola's like Ragusa is. Florham Park/East Hanover guys etc. Which is where Ragusa is from.
I thought he was a captain or acting captain for a period. Gooms is a real nickname but the name is questionable. I would like to know who this Nino Molinelli is the undercover cop said he was a crew boss and used to be close to John Gotti.
"Jimmy Balls" Beltempo is/was a captain overseeing NJ rackets for the Gambinos according to the Stefanelli transcript.
Yeah but this Nino is described as the John Gotti guy and said to have worked for Gotti. I dont think Beltempo was that close to Gotti was he? The Gotti connection made me think it was Sisca but the timeline doesnt really match.
On Danny Gooms, there is a Daniel Bertelli living in Hillside NJ. I found him through property records but who knows if thats the guy. Fuck this book for having fake and real names makes it confusing. Shouldn't have released it like that. We still dont know who the Augie guy is with the westside either.
I grew up in Hillside NJ lol Hes gotta be the last Italian guy living in HS. Its a shithole like Irvington now. I was the white shadow on the block when I lived there in the 90s.. Never heard of the guy.
Update: You had a typo.. they guy is 45 and lives in Hillsdale NJ NOT Hillside NJ. BIG Difference !!! LMAO And I looked him up further. They guy is a High School Art Teacher. So I doubt he is a Gambino Family Member. lol
amazing description, I got lost in hillsode while working for 394 i pulled over and a black lady basically ran off her porch and told me to get out of there fast, holy crap i didn't think of that since 1995

"Hey, hey, hey — this is America, baby! Survival of the fittest.”
I think he exaggerated a little, it's not like it used to be, Decavalcante is a weak family, they wouldn't want to risk killing him, not even people from New York do that anymore.

It goes beyond exaggeration though. His book is full of his non stop worries that in every situation he was going to be killed. And his section where he was made an associate of the crew reads like he just got made. FBI didn't think it was too dangerous if they grabbed a guy from the area to throw in there. And thought he'd be fine living where he lived afterward. This is a guy who wants us to think he's Joe Pistone. But, I do appreciate books about the mob from 2015. So of course I own it.
I get leaving the area you know Not everyone reads a forum and knows the mob doesn’t kill anybody anymore. I think he exaggerated the amount of danger he was in but still shit could’ve happened.

To quote Remo from Casino “Why take a chance”
Guys need to keep that in perspective IMO
But you're kind of making my point in a way. You're quoting a movie. Good movie. But Remo is a fictional character and that scene is fantasy.
And this guy seems to want his experience to have been a movie like the ones he grew up watching. Personally I think it's just weird having a guy work a crew(no matter how small and unimportant) who lives right by him. But that's the only weird thing to me. I'm surprised he didn't throw in a "story" he heard that Stagno called for a hit on him in the courtroom during a recess. That would fit with the way he relates his story.
Well that wasn’t really the point of my quote but whatever
I was kind of trying to portray why take a chance with your life when you are dealing with career criminals

Hi Dave. Obviously I'm not saying you're confusing the reality of the mob with Hollywood's version. I kind of meant that there are people out there(and I bet a lot of law enforcement) that think that Remo thing happened. And just the way this particular guy tells his story, he's either going for that, or he actually believes. But obviously law enforcement is dangerous in general. And yes, precautions should and need to be taken. Which is why I don't get why they'd use him. Seems stupid. But we've got made guys who flipped living in the open where they used to live by 2015. Decavalcantes haven't killed anyone that we know about in sixteen years at least at the time he was undercover. He just needs to ease it back a bit. The worry of walking down a street in Elizabeth in broad daylight and he sees guys on porches and thinks he's being set up on a hit(thinks they all might be part of an Olivieri hit squad), seems odd. And he literally tells that story.

This guy is making it out to be so dramatic. A few juvenile slobs selling weed on the boardwalk, and now his life is in danger.
I could not agree more. How did they give this guy a book deal for him busting some geezer gangster and his lard ass whigger son? I won’t waste my money.
Big Joe Massino or Joey Merlino write a book? I’m all in!

Lol, Hillside and Irvington ain’t no joke man.
I lived in Highland Ave 3 blocks from the police station. They gangbangers would order pizza to the house across the street. When the poor pizza delivery kid would pull up . They would stick a gun in his face..take the car, the pizza and his money. They did it like 3 times same location !!. I lived there in the 70s and then again in the early 90s. Used to just be allot spill over crime from Newark and Irvington. But Hillside has gone down hill worse. Way more foreclosures now and in a hopping market.
