He didn't just say they are stronger than many think (which would also raise an eyebrow), he said they could give the NY families a run for their money. Granted it was a passing statement (perhaps just hyperbole) on his part but, even if he was given the opportunity to justify what he said, I doubt he could.TommyNoto wrote: ↑Sun Jun 20, 2021 5:14 amThe Undercover is an FBI agent right ? So it’s from their intelligence files
That family sticks to themselves, that area is still like the 80s so I wouldn’t be shocked if they have rebuilt . They could also been be on their legs, we don’t know but if an FBI agent says they are stronger then many think , I’m going with that until I hear more / otherwise
As we know, for decades the family was very unique in that they had a rather narrow niche - the construction industry in North Jersey. The lynchpin being control of LIUNA Local 394. That's been gone for 15 years. There are still some connected companies, particularly in moving C&D materials it seems, but the family has lost it's powerbase and primary source of money.
Beyond that, it seems they have never really recovered from the 1999-2001 busts, where their boss, 3 ruling panel members, consigliere, 5 captains and 7 soldiers were all indicted. When has any other small family ever been hit that hard in the space of a few years?
I'm sure people will point out that was 20 years ago but, even then, the DeCavalcantes were still considered the weakest family in the region. And the occasional cases since then haven't exactly showed a powerhouse. The 2015 case - his case - was the most significant in quite a while and the charges basically amounted to lower-level drug dealing, contraband cigarettes, and a plan to operate an escort service that never got off the ground. Even Stango, during the investigation, said "We're weak."
And when was even the last time a DeCavalcante member was busted in New York?
And before someone says, "But aren't the FBI always right?," no, they're usually right and far and away the most consistent source of information on LCN.
