How did Greg Scarpa really get AIDS?

Larry Mazza said Greg used to watch while he had sex with Gregs wife...What straight Man would allow this?
I know Greg had children but that isn't unusual.

He won a lawsuit against the hospital that gave him the transfusion, so it's well established that that's where it came from. And I think Mazza said that he suspected Scarpa was hiding in the closet watching them on a few occasions, but that doesn't prove anything.

My understanding is that it was from a blood transfusion. Scarpa had emergency surgery for a bleeding ulcer (some accounts state instead that it was a hiatal hernia) and refused blood from the hospital blood bank (I believe due to not wanting to potentially receive blood from a black donor?). Scarpa solicited donations from family and friends. Associate Paul Mele donated but was a bodybuilder who had unknowingly contracted HIV from sharing steroid needles. The hospital in question was Victory Memorial in Bay Ride, which was bought out by SUNY Downstate a while back. This at least is the story as I know it.

If I’m not mistaken, Scarpa’s family was from the Veneto region.

Yeah I thought I read once that Scarpa initially thought he’d never be made because he was a Nothern Italian.

I don't have a hard time believing the story behind this, not just because it's been told the same way by a bunch of different people, but also because in 86, an in law of mine went through the same thing essentially at a different hospital in Brooklyn. They had received a tainted transfusion and passed less than a year later (but was pretty sick to begin with anyway). The one thing I have a hard time believing is that Scarpa was awarded his settlement in a duffle bag full of cash
