I doubt it's that high. But if he was involved in 20+ murders I would not be surprised. And he was always really involved. Not like a lot of Granvano's murders where he's "involved" because he knew it would happen. I mean they found those six bodies in just that one mob graveyard Pitera had on Staten Island. And a lot of those I wouldn't even consider mob murders. And there are other sanctioned hits we know he was involved in.

This also gets into the discussion of what you count as “bodies”. What level of participation do you have to have in the piece of work to get credit for it? Does the guy driving the crash car get to add a notch on his belt? What about the guy(s) burying the body? How bout the backup shooter?

Obvious example is Gravano...who copped to 19 murders but was only the triggerman on 1 of them.

Apart Lefty Brusca and Barra was recorded saing how people killed,Avola confessed,Greco was sentenced for 58 murders but for sure was more,in castellano tapes was compared the 38 murders of DeMeo with the less 10 murders of Gotti.
DeMeo directly killed 38 people but partecipated in almost 100 hits.

Regarding Lefty claiming 26 or 27 hits whatever it was under his belt, it wasn't just from the movie. Pistone quoted him as saying it in the book. Pistone also claimed that Mirra had killed "20 or 30 people". Anthony Rotondo testified that Louie LaRasso had "20 or 30 bodies under his belt". I don't doubt that these guys were all killers but these numbers seem way inflated. LCN Bios has a really good run down of the known murders committed by DeMeo's crew and he was hands-on for the vast majority of them, so he might be the most legitimate contender for highest body count that we can confirm anyway.

I think if we're counting in terms of total number of murders where the guy either ordered it or played some kind of role (i.e. how Gravano claims 19 bodies or Gaspipe has 36) then I think that the Boot Boiardo would probably be up there. This cold-hearted son of a bitch was having guys killed from the Prohibition era all the way to the late 70s.

For example when Riina killed boss and underboss of crime family in Marsala, other members formed 'Stidda' to fight Riina and Corleonesi. Stidda killed Antonino Titone,ambushed Gaspare Raia and Antonio Patti they also killed Angelo Lo Presti.

And then Riina sent Matteo Messina Denaro,Leoluca Bagarella,Giovanni Brusca and others to Marsala , they wiped off Stidda in few months.

I don’t know the real number for Lombardo either, but Wemette told me that Joey continued to directly participate in hits himself long after he was promoted to capo. I suspect that Lombardo was personally involved in more than just a handful, but we may never know.
