Got an idea

Got an idea and wanted to hear the higher ups thoughts on this and everyone else as well so I figured I would post it here instead of elsewhere so everyone can see it.

To kind of go along with the charts of families and pics/mugshots, why not start a thread for example: "Patriarca Family" or "New England Family" which it's known as and each post has a pic of say Ray Patriarca and info on him like Harry is good at posting. Would that be worth the effort? If we have questions or we question someone's info we just have a single thread asking the person why they put this or that in the post but no posting (like the FBI files) in the family thread so everyone can look up a name and read up real info instead of some relying on Wiki, etc. and we don't have to go elsewhere or ask the same boring questions over and over like GBB is so bad about.

Would that be worth the time or no? I'm just spitballing here. Like I have no idea about the Genovese and other than the Chin, Costello, and Genovese himself I couldn't tell you who was who in a picture much less "know" about them but if we had a thread about the family showing pics and telling who that person was I would know and wouldn't have to post asking a question we might have answered 100 times already.

Well, we would need experts on these Families to make those kinda threads. These experts would need to dedicate a lot of time, research and probably money into the projects. And finding info is not easy. Finding correct info is even harder. I can see JCB and Friend of Henry making threads on Pittsburgh, Ohio and those Families. And for example, Snakes, Villain, Antiliar and others could make a thread on the Chicago outfit. But what about New England? Dallas? Detroit? Tampa, the Cali Families etc? I don´t mean to sound pessimistic, but is it worth the effort?

We once had the idea of starting a wiki on which only trusted members of our forum could participate. Soliai had laid the groundworks for it and the wiki was there. Unfortunately it didn't come to fruition because most guys didn't have the time for it or were simply not interested.

The easiest (not really) way would be to index a photo template of mobsters, and posters could "tag" their names similar to twitter.

I like the way you're thinking, but I'm not so sure it's suitable for a forum. More and more I'm thinking of youtube and how that's the future. If we were to do minidocumentaries from "The Black Hand," that would be taking it to the next step. I've thought of doing my own stuff on the side, I'm just not there yet to sit down and so it. I might do it in the future, but it would be historical shit. What this forum could do with all the well rounded experts on the modern stuff would be interesting and generate traffic. And potentially in the future make money.

Or perhaps bh users could post about one particular mobster like ie I know a lot about the demeo crew I'm sure other posters have some mobsters they know a lot more about then others .. Like wiseguy knows a shit ton about the geneovese where posters like myself don't know a ton about them... Idk just a thought

That's what I mean about doing this, I probably didn't just explain it good enough. I don't want just one person doing a whole family unless they want to. That way anyone can contribute if they want and on who they want.

But I didn't know if it was feasible or not and worth the time or not. Like was mentioned it would be just a Wiki type deal but in the posting format of this board. Thanks all for the input, just trying to come up with ideas to make this place even better.

I like this idea. The concept I'm thinking of is that we start a thread on an individual or family and then everyone can post their knowledge with additional sources, which in turn can be added to the first post by a mod. If this works then over time the info could be transfered over to an encyclopedia/wiki managed by our board.

This can also lead to a Youtube channel or a website that generates money which can be used to pay for the domain/forum.

Food for thought I'd say.
