Mob murder with consequences
What mob murder caused the most repercussions for the mob???
I'd say Angelo Bruno's murder was the worst mob hit that happened bc it led to decades of war thereafter.
Anyone else got better ones??

The John Papalia hit in Canada IMO is the Canadian version of Angelo Bruno. Everybody that was involved got killed
But on a smaller scale I would say The Adolfo Bruno hit. From what arillota said it was a brain dead hit that killed the crew. Even with them saying he was an informant and the FBI agent saying he wasn’t may have been better just to let him run his course and stayed away from the violence

Re: Mob murder with consequences
When you say “mob murder”, you mean a murder of a mobster, or just any murder that the mob committed? If the latter, dirty Chicago lawyer Bob Cooley has claimed that his decision to go to the FBI and offer his cooperation stemmed from being directed to fix a specific murder case in the ‘80s. Supposedly some Outfit guys had thrown a black dude on the L tracks, where he was fried by the 3rd rail and died. Cooley claims that he overheard some of these guys say “who cares, it was just some N*****”, and that this disgusted him and was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Cooley’s cooperation was of course instrumental in the development of Operation GambAt, the 1990 federal case that shattered the Outfit-ruled 1st Ward political machine that controlled downtown Chicago and City Hall, led by Pat Marcy, Fred Roti, and John D’Arco Jr. GambAt was arguably the capstone of a series of highly damaging federal cases targeting the Chicago mob in the 80s and 90s, and dealt a crippling blow to the Outfit’s decades-long ability to oversee widespread corruption in the city of Chicago. This was a transformative event in the history of the Outfit and Chicago.
It should be noted that the above story is Cooley’s account of his decision to approach the Feds. Cooley had been fixing murder cases for the Outfit for some time by that point, and was also a degenerate gambler and cokehead (“GambAt” stood for “gambling attorney”, after all), so it’s always possible that he was just trying to give a flattering account of himself for posterity. Either way, the guy inarguably had tremendous fuckin’ balls to go to the Feds and offer to wear a wire on Pat Marcy. Allegedly his FBI handlers were shocked and thought he was suicidal.

The Gerlando Sciascia murder led to Massino flipping and arguably contributed to the violent Montreal mafia war 10+ years later.
The Galante hit was a cornerstone of the Commission case. Not only did that case rip the experienced leaders of the NYC mafia off the street and effectively end the Commission, but without the Commission case we likely wouldn't have seen the Colombo War, the havoc unleashed by Casso/Amuso, etc. You could also argue if the Galante hit hadn't happened, neither would the murders that played out in the Bonanno family over the next few years.

Well if Phil Testa isnt killed then Salvie isnt killed, probably no war with the Riccobenes, etc. Philadelphia might have been alot of different.

Castellano!
Without going in to detail, there has been enough talk about the damage that hit did not just to the Gambinos, but the Mob as a whole.

Possibly the murders of Tommy O'Neglia and Dago Mangano ignited a war in Chicago...and also the Spilotro hits also raised a lot of dust in the eyes of LE at the time...

The Niccolò Rizzuto murder prove that the Rizzutos aren't invincible and that anyone should be the next king of Montrèal.

The murder of Giovanni "Johnny" Bertolo in Montreal in 2004. Since then we have all lost count of the number of victims ...

Carmine Russo was one of the FBI agents that worked on the Pizza Connection case, and he’s skeptical they would’ve cracked that case without the information they learned from investigating the Galante murder. They started looking hard at the Sicilians after that hit, which led them to Sal Catalano, which ultimately led to the bust. It was the single biggest investigation in FBI history at the time.B. wrote: ↑Fri May 21, 2021 5:46 pm The Gerlando Sciascia murder led to Massino flipping and arguably contributed to the violent Montreal mafia war 10+ years later.

Although no one was convicted, the Saint Valentine's Day Massacre brought a lot of repercussions to the mafia, so much so that it is still remembered today.

I thought Massino flipping was caused by Frank Coppa being hit w more charges and rolling over...B. wrote: ↑Fri May 21, 2021 5:46 pm The Gerlando Sciascia murder led to Massino flipping and arguably contributed to the violent Montreal mafia war 10+ years later.

Massino started cooperating right after he was convicted in his 2004 trial. It didn't come out that he had flipped until 2005.

Giuseppe Di Matteo, 12 yr old son of a pentiti who was kidnapped and tortured for two years before being strangled and dissolved in acid. Shocked Italy to the core and revised many peoples tolerance of OC throughout the southern part of the boot.
Giovanni Falcone, Judge executed by Riina, the beast, aptly called. The state came down harder on the mafia than in any time in Italian history from Falcones death.
