Is the 82yr old onofrio modica related to the Gambino soldier of the same name arrested in the recent Danny Marino indictment? Grandson?

Great stuff JD. That as indeed a huge crew. Even after it was broken up the two crews were still pretty big.
This is interesting. Joe Biondo was demoted as UnderBoss in 1965 so Dellacroce wasn't named the Offcial until sometime after February 1967?

It specifically talks about Paul Castellano, Aniello Dellacroce and Joseph N. Gallo being confirmed as the acting Admin

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.
Re: Joseph Gennaro / James Failla Crew Split 1967
It is the same meeting that was held at Leonardo Grillo's home, correct? Do you know if he was related to Ernesto Grillo Sr. and Jr.? Any other Grillos who were known to be members? Seems that the DeMeo associate Edward Grillo probably wasn't connected to them but I don't know.JD wrote:It only specified Castellano and Gallo as Acting, Dellacroce could have been the official.
The Gennaro regime (formerly under Joseph Franco, then Carmine Lombardozzi) was probably even larger than this, just listed the known members.

Yes, the meeting was hald in the basement of Leo Grillo´s home at 1235 54th Street in Brooklyn. Another thing perhaps worth mentioning is that the informant (most likely Carmine Lombardozzi) said that during this meeting, Paul Castellano anounced that Joe Gambino (the one up in Bronx) had been made a captain.B. wrote:It is the same meeting that was held at Leonardo Grillo's home, correct? Agreed..threads like these help me connect a lot of the dots. For instance, Jimmy Brown being with the Aurello crew before getting upped.

Paul Castellano boss since '67?
Credit to JackieAprile on GBB for finding this, and close this if this has already been discussed. I used the search function and went back a couple and didnt see it mentioned, admittedly I didn't go back all 25 pages of history. So I repeat close this if its already been discussed.

Again, credit to the user JackieAprile for bringing all this to my attention. I remembered hearing about this before but never actually saw an FBI document to support it. Any idea who this informant was and if this info has ever been verified?
On February 28, 1967, NY T-25 advised that a meeting was held on Monday night, February 27, 1967, at the residence of LEO GRILLO, 1235 54th Street, Brooklyn, New York, at which approximately 19 members of the Gambino 'family' were present. JAMES FAILLA was introduced as the "Caporegima" for half of the old regime of JOSEPH GENNARO.
The meeting was presided over by PAUL CASTELLANO, who advised the group that he was "Acting Boss" for CARLO GAMBINO in all matters. CASTELLANO pointed out that because of increased pressures by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other law enforcement agencies on GAMBINO, CASTELLANO would act more often on LCN matters for the "boss."
In addition, ANIELLO DELLACROCE was present and was introduced to the group as UNDERBOSS in the "family."
JOSEPH GALLO was also present and he was introduced as the acting "Consulieri" for the "family" because of the illness and lack of mobility on the part of JOSEPH RICCOBONO.
CASTELLANO stated there was now a closer coordination of the "family" membership and pointed out that in addition to SABBATO MURO being excluded from the "family", ANDREW TORREGROSSA, and his son, JOHN, were eliminated from the "family." CASTELLANO pointed out that all members were to have nothing to do with the BONANNO "family" membership, and stated that their leadership is still "up in the air." Informant advised that the COLOMBO "family" was entirely subservient to CARLO GAMBINO.
CASTELLANO also pointed out that there would be no trouble with the LUCHESE "family" in view of the relationship between GAMBINO and LUCHESE, and in view of the serious illness of THOMAS LUCHESE.
According to the informant, CASTELLANO indicated that CARLO GAMBINO, at the present time, was the most powerful "Boss" in LCN.

Re: Joseph Gennaro / James Failla Crew Split 1967
So nino Gaggi was acting skipper or skipper already in '67 ? When were those guys from Gennaro's crew transfered over to Nino and why?
From the crew breakdowns on this forum I can see that Accursio 'Swifty' Marinelli and John 'Johnny Pesce' Chiarello are for sure put with Nino, anyone else?
Remmember that I read something that in the late 60s maybe even '67 the Eppolito's were put wit Big Paul/Nino Gaggi crew too.

Okay, so it has been talked about, this part specificially. Alright, this can be closed then, or at least merged with the thread you just mentioned, as I'm still interested on the Castellano essentially being the Gambino boss since 1967 aspect. And thank the JackieAprile guy, whomever he is, he's the one who raised it to my attention.
My bad, guys.

Leonardo Grillo is the father of current Gambino soldier Ernest Grillo.
