Does anyone have any info on this guy? He was made by Phil Testa at the big June, 8, 1980 ceremony and died shortly after in 1981. He seems to be the odd man out in that ceremony as all of the other inductees were relatives of other members or had taken part in murders (or both). So what got him made? As I recall he was involved with the bartenders union.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

Lumio and salvatore merlino murdered Michael (Coco) Cifelli for selling drugs to the son of Frank Monte
Re: Philly Soldier Bobby Lumio
He was very influential with the union along with his cousin Anthony Viesti, who was Ralph Natale's best friend. Lumio likely got made so that they would have a member running the union.

Was he involved in that? I thought the shooters in that hit were Sal Merlino and Salvy Testa?

Yeah I figured the bartenders union had a big role in Lumio getting made.
Also surprising that Viesti never got made considering he went back a ways in the famly, had a cousin who was made and was best friends with the Boss.

He was definitely an associate of the family for a number of years before he got made. He had been arrested in 1974 on federal gambling charges, which is one reason he was being investigated (with the intention of ousting him from Local 54) at the time of his death. Frank Lentino was close to him and took over his role there.

That post above is about Lumio, by the way. I agree about Viesti and have wondered why he didn't get in. On one hand there were a lot of Italian associates who never got made because that's just the nature of it, but Viesti had a lot going on.

I checked and Anthony Viesti/81 was released in 2008. I wonder if he got back into the game.

Merlino and Testa were the shooters. Lumio set Cifelli up by luring him to the execution site and keeping him occupied until the arrival of the hit team.
