Very unlikely - Greco is REALLY a common surname in both Sicily and Calabria, and in Calabria as well there are many ndranghetisti with that surname as well. Also, a lot of Sicilian and Calabrians have family linked with each other, so impossible to say.

That's what I thought too. I would like to know who are the 'ndrangheta's Grecos relative to the Greco in Sicily. I may find out one day ... Thank you for the reply.

Arrested in Barcelona "godfather" of the Calabrian mafia

Spanish police announced today that they had arrested a "godfather" in Calabrian mafic ('Ndrangheta) in Barcelona and said he was one of the most dangerous and wanted criminals in Italy.

Image

identified by the Guardia Civil only by the initials G.R., the 34-year-old suspect was arrested in a large market in Barcelona, the Mercat de Sant Gervasi, thanks to the surveillance of a member of his family.

In a statement, Spanish police said he had fled "several years ago" and was wanted in Italy for drug trafficking, money laundering and affiliation.

According to the police, the clues for his capture were initially given by French anti-drug investigators, after which one of his family members was able to be watched with the help of the Italian police.

Last November, the suspect was tried in absentia by an Italian court and sentenced to 20 years in prison for playing a central role in a drug trafficking and money laundering network in Italy.

According to Spanish police, the suspect's father, 74, with links to the mafia, is also being held in Parma, Italy.

Headquartered in Calabria, southern Italy, 'Ndrangheta' is considered one of the richest and most powerful crime syndicates due to the control over most of the cocaine that enters Europe.

'Ndrangheta' has expanded its activities around the world and is already considered to be larger than Cosa Nostra, from Sicily.

I got this news from a website in my country, so as it involves mafia in the title maybe that's why they used "godfather" too.

@Wisegui posted this link and comment: -https://palermo.repubblica.it/cronaca/2 ... 285890907/ - "Just as an aside, I stumbled across this while trying to read more on the above report. Last month, it was reported Palermo investigators had recorded two mafiosi in Agrigento Province discussing an emissary from the Gambino family who had visited in search of a financially troubled company they could launder money through. The Gambino guy wasn't identified but he was reportedly accompanied by two Russian individuals and the name of "Dominique D'Acquisto" came up in the conversation. One could assume they were talking about Gambino captain Domenico Acquista" in another thread but it's relevant also here -

I added this:

THIS IS AN EXTRACT FROM THE COURT ARREST WARRANT -

CASTELLO: nooo…
BUGGEA: a New York…
CASTELLO: dove? Quale quartiere? Perché New York è fatta di cinque quartieri…
BUGGEA: non glielo so dire zio Simò… potremmo noi saperlo…
CASTELLO: Brooklyn… Bronx…
BUGGEA: oppure?

He was a trafficker in The Netherlands for the Rosarno-based clans (Bellocco) - so not a member, just a trafficker...

Mafia boss Cosa Nostra who lived in Brazil is arrested by Italian police

Giuseppe Calvaruso was the head of the Pagliarelli clan and controlled from the opening of trade to criminal issues in the region, punishing those who disrespected his orders

Image

The longing to spend the traditional Easter Sunday lunch with the family was fatal for a "capo" of the Italian mafia who lived hidden in Brazil and traveled to Italy on the occasion.

Giuseppe Calvaruso, 43, was identified and detained at Palermo airport in Sicily, police said Tuesday.

According to officials of the anti-mafia leadership, quoted by the press, Calvaruso was the head of the Pagliarelli clan (southeast of Palermo).

On Sunday, he took a Christmas flight, with a stopover in Paris, to Palermo. He was expected by the police at the airport, shows a video released after his arrest.

Calvaruso is accused of conspiracy to commit a crime along with four other accomplices, charged with executing his orders in Italy.

According to investigators, the clan punished the perpetrators of crimes committed without his authorization. Traders and businessmen in the region had to turn to this family of Cosa Nostra to obtain any authorization to open commercial activities, or to resolve disputes.

The "big boss" administered the public order of his territory, maintained relations with other mafia clans and invested in the construction and restoration of buildings. He also established ties with a Singaporean investor with interests in Sicily.

After the arrest, on December 4, 2018, of 46 people belonging to the Cosa Nostra - among them Settimo Mineo, until then "capo" of Pagliarelli -, Calvaruso took over the organization's reins in his territory.
