You guys are cracking me up. For some reason I just cannot picture a made man in Cosa Nostra riding a bicycle. My brain just can't do it.
DeSantis is a killer, eh? What hits was he involved in? I'm not familiar.
Nah it's easy to picture. Johnny Sideburns standing around waiting, on a hot sweltering August day on the Canarsie Pier, uncomfortable and overdressed for the weather in a jogging suit. Checking his watch every 15 minutes for over an hour, shaking his head each time incredulously, until DeSantis finally pulls up on a 10 speed in spandex and a helmet, out of breath, saying "Hey John how ya doin! I just broke a personal record! How about this humidity, huh?"
As far as the hits, he was going to be the designated trigger puller on the D'Arco hit until Al stormed out of the door and blew their opportunity. On top of that, he was involved in the hit of a union official they lured out to Jersey - I think John Morrissey maybe? And allegedly another one in Brooklyn but I can't recall the details on that, other than he was there and it was a Pagliarulo crew murder. DeSantis is a Brooklyn guy and I'm almost positive he was with that Pagliarulo crew who did not shy away from murder at all.
The bit about him writing a letter to resign and all that makes him sound like a weirdo but given who he came up under and the prison time he's served I highly doubt he's anyone to trifle with. Gonna go out on a limb and say he's a serious guy. Especially if we are to believe Pennisi's story about the transition and that in this day and age, they were actually prepared to take it to violence if the transition between them and the Bronx guys didn't go smoothly.
