When was Matthew Madonna made?

Post by sdeitche »

I was reading through some transcripts (thanks mafia student!) from the Meldish trial. There is a reference in there where Robert Spinelli is heard on a wiretap saying that "Matty didn't become a wise guy until he was 60 years old". That would have been in 1995, the year Madonna was released from prison for his 1976 heroin conviction. I've also seen on here where he was listed in the 1998-200 ceremony timeframe.

Does anyone have a better idea of when he might have been made?

I believe he was made a few yrs after he was released from prison in 95 or 96 ? So around 97 or 98 and by 99 he was a capo I believe. He was sent back to prison for a short stretch I forget what for prob violated his released restrictions. etc Id like to know more about who sponsored him and who made him. I have to assume DiNapoli had a hand is some of that. I believe that Crea was in Prison when Matty was made in 97 or 98 or on his way to being indicted in the Sean Richards debackle..pretty sure that was late 90s.

He wasn't on the list that Joe Defede provided of members he inducted as Acting Boss (1993-1998). So it would have been sometime after that.

As Pogo said he wasnt inducted when DeFede was acting boss. I would guess he was made under Crea so 1999-2000?

According to Capeci, Madonna was made some time after his release from prison as a thank you for keeping his mouth shut. Since DeFede didn't induct him, he was most likely made under Crea Sr. some time between April 1998 and September 2000. In September 2000, Crea Sr. was indicted and Louie Bagels took over as acting boss. By 2001 Madonna was ID'd as a Lucchese made member and by 2003 he was a captain and ruling panel member.

I thought Massino just said that after the whole Donnie Brasco situation, guys had to spend at least eight years as associates before they could get made.

I believe that was one of the changes he made to prevent HIS family, the Bonannos, from being infiltrated again. I think every family has different rules, obviously to prevent undercover agents from infiltrating their ranks, they would usually associate with a guy that has a cousin, or a brother that’s associated with them. And not make mistakes like Associating with a guy that goes around with a certain way of making money without even knowing the guy’s background.

Lol obviously the lukes don’t have the 8 years as an associate rule.. pennisi wasn’t even an associate or committing any crimes or making money hardly and he was made.. I swear his career as a mobster makes absolutely no sense to me at all... even when he was made he had like nothing going on.. he was turning down loan customers from tall Pete and everyone else. I think he had like 1 10k loan out from an inheritance he got when his grandma passed.. and he only had a half sheet he said with like 3-5 bettors..

I mean even back in the day, most mobsters weren’t earners & lived off of loan customers of their superiors.
