'Ndrangheta massacre: the Freemasonry-Mafia relationship told by the Grand Master Di Bernardo
AM Two thousand-8 11 January 2019

From contacts with Gelli's P2 to arms trafficking and the separatist project
“An interpenetration between Freemasonry and the 'Ndrangheta? I think it has always been there ” . “Gelli's P2? Gelli was invented by the CIA, by the Americans, because the American government had lost faith in Moro and Andreotti and was beginning to fear that in Italy there could be a communist overtaking. Once he offered me the real lists of P2 to be readmitted to Goi (Grand Orient of Italy) ” .
These are just some of the statements that the Grand Master Giuliano Di Bernardo (pictured) made today during the hearing in the 'Ndrangheta massacre trial, underway before the Court of Assizes of Reggio Calabria and which sees the Sicilian boss Giuseppe as defendants. Graviano and Rocco Santo Filippone believed to be the instigators of the ambushes of the carabinieri in the massacres of the early nineties.
A rather articulated deposition in which Di Bernardo, a key man in the history of Italian Freemasonry, retraced several moments lived at the top of the Grand Orient of Italy (he was elected on 11 March 1990, ed ), in a historical moment in which the most a great Italian Masonic organization was recognized by the English Freemasonry and therefore fell within the category of so-called "regular Freemasonry" .
During his duties, Di Bernardo became aware of a phenomenon of infiltration by the mafia in the southern summits of the Grand Orient of Italy and, before leaving by slamming the door, he thoroughly investigated collecting various documents.
And on this point he was also heard by judge Agostino Cordova who in those years was conducting the very delicate investigation "Secret hands" .
Cordova's work had started from the suspicious death of a notary exponent of the 'Ndrangheta, Pietro Marrapodi , Grand Orator of the loggia of Reggio Calabria' Logoteta 'who began to reveal burning background on the relations between' Ndrangheta and Calabrian freemasonry and began to name of the colluding Reggio Masons. Despite a denied escort request, Marrapodi was found dead hanged in the basement of his home in the city and his death was quickly filed as a murder, although doubts about his passing remain today.
The right direction
Di Bernardo, answering the questions of the Deputy Prosecutor Giuseppe Lombardo confirmed that the investigation by Judge Cordova was going in the right direction, understanding that the Calabrian clans controlled Northern Italy through infiltrating the lodges.
"I made available to him important documents and the results of my discoveries - he recalled in the courtroom - but then nothing happened. When the investigation was removed, the file passed into the hands of several prosecutors.
Then it was transferred to Rome for competence. and there it was filed for the term " . So the Grand Master went into the specifics of the facts: " Ettore Loizzo, engineer from Cosenza and my deputy at Goi, during a meeting of the council of the Grand Orient of Italy said that he could say with certainty that in Calabria, out of 32 lodges, 28 were controlled by the 'Ndrangheta. I jumped up and said to him: 'And what do you want to do?' He replied: 'Nothing, absolutely nothing'.
And he explained to me that on the other hand he and his family risked serious reprisals. Then I went to the Duke of Kent to whom I explained the situation, but he told me that he was already aware of it "." In London - he specified -they told me that thanks to the embassy and the security services they were aware of the infiltrations of the 'Ndrangheta and this is normal, because in England Freemasonry is a recognized institution. The head is the Duke of Kent if there were the King, he would be the King, so it is normal that the associations with which they are in relations are under observation . " Di Bernardo then, at the suggestion of the Duke of Kent, founded a new order, the Grand regular lodge of Italy
Infiltrations in Sicily and Calabria
According to Di Bernardo:“Calabria was undoubtedly the center of this infiltration phenomenon, as highlighted by Prosecutor Cordova, but already signals were coming from Sicily. There was a fact that made the leaders of the Grand Orient tremble, namely the arrest of the mayor of Castelvetrano for his involvement with the mafia, but in Sicily I had other signals from the leaders of the GOI ” .
These signals came from a Freemason lawyer, Massimo Maggiore of Palermo, at the top of the Sicilian Grand Orient, who confidentially informed Di Bernardo to refuse the invitation to visit the lodge that belonged to a well-known lawyer from Trapani because in that area all the lodges of the GOI had been occupied by the mafia.
"I asked him how they could have allowed it - added the witness -and they replied that he had not been able to avoid it. There I began to understand that the leaders who should have applied the rules of Freemasonry in the territory had actually been subordinated to logic of other power. And this was already happening before the Cordova investigation, ” Di Bernardo said. "I was elected Grand Master completely ignoring what the local realities were" he continued, giving the impression of wanting to justify himself with respect to certain events that occurred.
Deputy Prosecutor Giuseppe Lombardo , referring to a May 2014 report in which Di Bernardo had declared that the situation in Calabria was more worrying than the Sicilian one, wanted to clarify the difference between the lodges in those territories. According to Di Bernardo“In Sicilian Freemasonry there was not, so to speak, a unitary point of view. Freemasonry was indented and each part had its center of power. In Calabria, on the other hand, there was a mind that regulated, beyond all, the contrasts that existed between the Masonic obediences of that territory. There was a common thread ” continues Di Bernardo “ Loizzo gave me the strongest imprinting but then I began to see the outline and I came to understand that Calabrian Freemasonry is more powerful than Sicilian for the unitary vision it possesses ” .
The separatist movements and the massacre season of 92-94
With respect to the separatist movements that were spreading throughout the country in those years, Di Bernardo talks about the information he had from his position as Grand Master of the Grand Orient in Italy.
His source was his personal secretary Luigi Savina who received information directly from the Calabrian Freemasons who supported the separatist movements and sought the support of their Grand Master. “My personal secretaries told me that part of the Freemasonry supported the separatist movements.
Reggio Calabria was the driving force of these separatist movements - declared Di Bernardo -Cosenza had its own specificity and the situation was less serious. Catanzaro didn't count for much. That vision was not part of my vision of Italy, so as long as I was Grand Master I always rejected such requests for involvement that arrived. I do not know the situation in the North, but I can imagine that he was not interested, although I cannot exclude that there were those who threw fuel on the fire . "
With respect to the connection between Freemasonry and the Mafia during the massacre season, Di Bernardo told the replacement Lombard:“I got an idea and I think it was all within the same context, albeit with internal separations. The idea I got was that there was someone there who pulled the strings within different contexts. Yes, that season has matured in contact with Masonic circles . " The former Grand Master of the Grand Orient of Italy had also talked about this with the leaders of English Freemasonry, specifically with the Duke of Kent who was already aware of everything. which concerned the Italian Freemasonry and the national political situation.
Arms trafficking and the Grand Orient of Italy
Within the framework described this morning by Giuliano Di Bernardo, at the request of the Deputy Prosecutor Lombardo, there is also a mysterious phone call that the former Grand Master of the GOI received at night in his Roman residence in Villa Vascello in which a man with a foreign accent, which he defines African, mistaking it for his predecessor, Armando Corona , began to make demands for heavy and light weapons.
I was in my residence on the Janiculum and the phone rings at three in the morning. It was 1991. I hear in a foreign voice saying 'Grand master we would need the same things he gave us before'. I could have said 'he is talking to another person'. But I've been to the game and asked 'what do you need specifically?' and starts making me a list of weapons not only light but also heavy. When he realizes the meaning of my questions, he says 'Am I talking to Armando Corona?'. I say 'No with Giuliano Di Bernardo' and he puts it down. A light came on for me. I understood that that phone call came from Africa, perhaps from Somalia ".
Di Bernardo immediately informed the leaders of French Freemasonry on which the African territory depends at the Masonic level and learned from the French of the ties that Corona, and therefore the leaders of the GOI, had with the President of Gabon, also a Mason, and of the exchanges of weapons present internationally between Freemasonry and the African country. Di Bernardo also spoke of this to Prosecutor Cordova.
Di Bernardo also claimed that he had also presented the question to the junta of the Grand Orient of Italy to judge Corona but those who had to express a judgment "were his friends and therefore everything ended in nothing. The central court of the GOI was chaired by the number one of Sicilian Freemasonry " .
Comparison of Freemasonry and Mafia according to
Giuseppe Di Bernardo
During the interrogation, Di Bernardo then described what the Masonic and Mafia membership have in common and which could be one of the keys to explain the dense network of ties that exist between these memberships. “I think the junction between the Mafia and Freemasonry is in the ritual.
The one used in Freemasonry and the one in the 'Ndrangheta have a common basis: in both cases a ritual is used that has the same meaning, that is to bind you to a secret once you are inside ” says Di Bernardo. “This in my opinion has greatly facilitated the interpenetration in Calabria between the Mafia and Freemasonry. I think this has always been there, ” he continued.
English Freemasonry and American Freemasonry in Italy
In his storyGiuliano Di Bernardo also retraced the history of Italian Freemasonry, explaining that the contemporary trend of Italian lodges was formed following the Second World War when Freemasonry was reborn in Italy after landing in Sicily "on a very different basis from nineteenth-century Freemasonry. ended with the First World War and the advent of fascism " . "When Americans come to Italy - explained the witness - they bring a new image of Freemasonry which is that of democratic Freemasonry different from that born in England and in this everything changes" .
Licio Gelli and the Grand Orient of Italy
Another important issue touched upon during today's audience by the Grand Master was that of contacts with P2 and Licio Gelli .
According to the former Grand Master of the GOI, Licio Gelli would have been the man that the Americans, through the CIA and the FBI, would have 'invented' to avoid the Communist overtaking in Italy at a time when Moro and Andreotti had betrayed their trust. "The American government was beginning to fear that there could be a Communist overtaking. When the Americans no longer have faith in the institutional bodies, they go in search of the new man, out of any context," Di Bernardo recalled.
To avoid the rise of communism in Italy, according to the witness, the Americans intervened through Frank Gigliotti, an important Freemason who favored the US landing in Sicily by asking for help from the mafia.
"It was he who re-founded Freemasonry in Italy - explained Di Bernardo - and he always proposed Gelli. He said: 'The savior of Italy is this man'. From that moment on, Gelli was the sole and exclusive referent of the American government, to prevent the Communists from being overtaken in Italy.
Gelli has had mountains of dollars, but above all the American government has made the Italian economic, military and judiciary leaders obey Gelli. All in obedience to him. This man suddenly found himself a power that I think no one has ever had in Italy. And it is true: we are talking about this political project of Gelli, the plan of rebirth. But what happens? Gelli had pledged to modify Italy to avoid overtaking. But when Gelli gets the money from the Americans he does his business and doesn't think about the fundamental purpose. The Americans are starting to urge him. And then he, as confided to some of his collaborators, can't take it anymore and thus begins to write a random project. He betrays the Americans, putting aside political ends. "
Di Bernardo explained how the "Venerable" enjoyed great approval even within the Grand Orient of Italy: "He had a very strong basis. Officially everyone praised Gelli. But I was able to understand that this was not true. Gelli , after my election, he sends me two letters in which he asks me to be readmitted. I read them and inform the council that I have received these letters and I do nothing.
One evening Eraldo Ghinoihe comes to see me and asks if I have received the letters. I say that, apart from my personal idea, Gelli cannot and must not return. And that even if I wanted to propose his return, I would have to present him to the Grand Lodge with the certainty that he would be rejected by a large majority. And he tells me: here you are wrong. Try putting it to approval and you will see that it will be approved. At this point, he tells me, 'I've been a friend of Gelli for a long time' and shows me a gold and platinum medal received from Gelli. I began to think: this is Freemasonry . "
The real lists of P2
But the readmission attempts did not end here. Di Bernardo recalled that he also received a first cash offer and, subsequently, an indecent proposal: the possession of the true list of P2."The one seized by the judiciary was only partial. Gelli offered me the real list of P2 through one of his emissaries who commented: 'so you can blackmail all of Italy'" .
Asked by prosecutor Lombardo about who this subject was, the witness preferred to entrench himself in silence: "I prefer not to say" . "No, I say I have not thought about it - admitted Di Bernardo - But then I decided not to proceed" .
That the secret list of P2 was something real, the witness was convinced after another episode: "After my election, the personal secretary of the Grand Master Battelli asks to meet me. This secretary wanted to make a declaration to the Grand Master to sign.
In fact, I meet him and he tells me that one evening Gelli shows up in the study of the Grand Master Battelli with a large file and tells him 'this is the P2 list'. Battelli begins to leaf through it and becomes all colors. In the end, Battelli closes and says to Gelli: 'Take it back, I've never seen this before'. And he tells his secretary that the names he saw there he doesn't want to say. The secretary feels compelled to make this statement. I have the knowledge that the real list exists but we don't know where.
This happens after the P2 lodge has been dissolved. The Anselmi law was necessary to dissolve P2, even if it does not dissolve anything because it contains a contradiction that contrasts with an article of the constitution.
This thesis has also recently been pursued by the last Anti-Mafia Commission.
In this way, according to Giuliano Di Bernardo , even his predecessor Armando Corona was able to found a covered lodge whose participants could not be identified except by the Grand Master.
Di Bernardo learned of this story when he was Grand Master of the GOI: "One day a Calabrian character comes to me and tells me: Grand Master I am in obedience to Armando Corona of the covered lodge, but I always want to be close to the number one and I want to enter his covered loggia - continued in Di Bernardo's story -And I said that I needed a written document to consider your request.
So he wrote me a letter on headed paper in which he attached a photo with Corona dressed in Masonic vestments and provided me with documentary proof of the existence of a covered lodge. I never knew if it was in Calabria but the subject who came to me was a Calabrian.
That point I gave everything to Cordoba. The covered lodges are in fact business committees. Corona has taken those entrepreneurs who he thought could be useful in his projects and brought them together in a covered loggia ” .
Di Bernardo's Masonic addresses
Given the infiltration of the Great East with the Mafia and the presence of internal currents that no longer reflected his Masonic ideal, Giuliano Di Bernardohe then spoke of his resignation in 1993 from the Grand Orient of Italy and the foundation of the "Regular Grand Lodge of Italy" recognized by the United Grand Lodge of England which, a few months after the formation of this new Masonic reality in Italy, truncated the relations with the Grand Orient of Italy.
Di Bernardo was Grand Master of this new Masonic reality, born on English inspiration for nine years until 2002. After a short time he retired from Freemasonry to found the Academy of the Illuminati. Within the hearing Di Bernardo stated that even the Regular Grand Lodge of Italy, as shown in the report of the Anti-Mafia Commission, has 77.3 percent of unidentifiable affiliates in regions such as Calabria and Sicily.
Vatican and Freemasonry
During the hearing, the Prosecutor Lombardo also asked the witness for his knowledge on the links that develop between the Freemasons and the Vatican. “For me they are just inventions - said the witness - However, I do not exclude that there have been relations between Freemasonry and the Vatican but today they no longer exist.
The Vatican today threw these things behind it, the cardinals accuse other cardinals of this for their internal struggles ” . Di Bernardo then said he had not had relations with the Vatican when he was Grand Master of the GOI.
"In 2002 when I had formed the Academy of the Illuminati, I received a request to include a representative of the Vatican in the Academy and I was offered a Bulgarian gentleman, head of secret services and diplomacy, a person who had followed the Bulgarian trail of the attempt on the Pope" he said addressing the Court. "He - concluded Di Bernardo - told me that in the Vatican there was a person who wanted to know me personally and I found myself in front of the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Pietro Parolin .
There was an immediate harmony on what to do. Several times I went back there and helped Parolin solve a problem with the Chinese government a few years ago ” . The trial was postponed to next January 18th .

Re: Mafia and Masonry
the connections date back probably to 1800s, mafia, ndrangheta and camorra copied masonic rituals at that time
Re: Mafia and Masonry
Yeah, the Italian mafia organizations were heavily influenced by constituent lodges, old feudal rights, and other secret organizations that have their origins in the Late Renaissance. It's not surprising that Calabrian clans infiltrated the freemasons to assert control in Northern Italy since they were/are familiar with the rituals. The Cosa Nostra induction ceremony has a masonic origin, too.
I guess it's easier to infiltrate these organizations since, at least in the past, Italian organized crime had a lot of 'legitimate' or 'semi-legitimate' members like lawyers, doctors, pharmacists i.e. people of high social stature that had an easier time blending in with the masons. If we're going back to the mid-19th century, many important and influential people were masons. It was logical for the mafia to infiltrate these circles to gain power for itself. It's similar to Cosa Nostra's modus operandi in labor racketeering.

I'll admit to being far from an expert on the topic, but my understanding is that the claim of links between Chinese secret societies and Freemasonry was based on older scholarship (late 19th century) that is disputed today.scagghiuni wrote: ↑Fri Jan 15, 2021 9:53 am chinese triads and tongs were also probably influenced by british freemasons

Re: Mafia and Masonry
There's a reference to this stuff in Godfather 3 regarding the main villain Don Lucchesi. Vincent mentions he's involved with the P2 Masonic lodge.
There's more about this at this link. The character is based on Gelli, who is mentioned in a post above (Don Lucchesi's first name is even "Licio").

'Ndrangheta boss Pantaleone Mancuso was recorded saying "It's not about 'Ndrangheta anymore, its about masonic lodges , P3, P4..."Ivan wrote: ↑Fri Jan 15, 2021 10:28 pm There's a reference to this stuff in Godfather 3 regarding the main villain Don Lucchesi. I think police never confirmed existence of P3/P4 like P2 back in 1980's.

i bet the p2 is still active with another name although it was officially dismantled in the 1980s, the original lodge was 'propaganda massonica' founded in 1877, p2 (propaganda 2) was founded after the second world war... gelli was probably involved with cosa nostra in the slaughters of 1990s and berlusconi was a p2 memberStrax wrote: ↑Sat Jan 16, 2021 5:31 am'Ndrangheta boss Pantaleone Mancuso was recorded saying "It's not about 'Ndrangheta anymore, its about masonic lodges , P3, P4..."Ivan wrote: ↑Fri Jan 15, 2021 10:28 pm There's a reference to this stuff in Godfather 3 regarding the main villain Don Lucchesi. Re: Mafia and Masonry
Did Leggio get someone to pull a shotgun on Burlesconi? Is that how they got associated within P2?
