Bklyn21 take this as a learning experience.....I used to come on the old board and tell people who I saw that day or whoever I bumped into if it was a wiseguy just trying to contribute and create conversation but I learned it's not even worth mentioning because you will always have certain guys who will question everything and if you can't really prove it they'll never believe it and that's fine that's their prerogative but if you don't want guys like Sonny attacking you constantly and calling you a bullshitter its better to keep most things to yourself. You can't talk to these guys like you would talk to me in the street, these guys are from all over the world and most have no idea whats it's like to live over here within the community that surrounds the life and they can't comprehend it. In the early 2000's, the skeptics, including myself, held the belief that street guys had better shit to do than post online. Well, two decades later it no longer seems to be the case. They are on social media, they do podcasts and they answer questions. The world has evolved and so must our thinking.

People are free to post as they want, but they need to understand they will face scrutiny. No one is above that. But there's a difference between asking for evidence and calling someone full of shit. And sometimes the latter is warranted (re. Giacomo Vacari), but in time the frauds present themselves, the legitimate people become recognized and it all evens out.

I would only ask, to consider the position of us researchers when it comes to evaluating information. We can't cite information as "so and so told me on the internet and trust me, he's legitimate."

Long Island, I wasn't meeting up , I just happened to see him standing on line at A&S Italian meats and pork store , I hadn't seen him in about 5 years or more , We were talking , I went to the same grade school and we used to hang out as kids and teenagers, He told me his mother passed and his grandmother and grandfather as well who basically raised him ,But other than that I don't hang out with him regularly, I hear about him from mutual friends who see him all the time

these neighborhoods really aren't that big. even if you’re a regular go-to-work and stay inside type of guy, the chances of running into ‘someone’ and / or being on a hello & goodbye basis with them are very, very high. especially if you’ve spent most of your life there. there are a few bakeries and delis in queens where its practically guaranteed you’ll run into someone ‘connected’ just by visiting. same with certain areas of Brooklyn. yeah the chinks have taken over but its still NYC, there are still people living and doing biz in the neighborhoods everyone reads about. so compound that with the fact that if you’re actually from the neighborhood, know the owners of the business, etc. - coupled with the fact that people gossip - and it’s really not out of bounds to hear about someone making money. even if what you hear is complete bullshit, exaggerated, whatever, people talk.

case in point there is a guy from my building who is supposedly a bonanno associate who is doing time for bank robbery; tell me why I dont know him from adam but know that he was a junkie and doing stickups for his dope habit, and that his wife is a junkie and is trying to chisel the apartment away from her in laws while the husband is locked up. i dont know these people outside of knowing they live 4 floors up and see the wife on the elevator, but everyone talks. “do you know what her husband did? do you know who her husband is?” when she walks by. its human nature. so it’s really not that crazy to think someone would be saying “did you hear he’s made now, and kicking up 10k a week?” when they spot someone like Palmaccio walking out of a restaurant. even if it’s bullshit, these guys are out and about, people know who they are, and conversely they know other regular people in the neighborhood as well.

Nick Festa picking up a trey for Christmas and says hi to a guy on the line he grew up with from the old neighborhood. thats unbelievable? its not like the guy was saying he plays cards with Barney every Wednesday afternoon down at DiChiara’s social club. he ran into a low level solider from his same neighborhood buying cold cuts for christs sake
