You’re right Tommy. It’s amazing this guy got his button.

yeah me too, still going with my gut. no way a guy that brings heat before being made is a crazy person

now he's a rat

how can you defend making him unless that is all that is left

all these singers claim they were the last tough guy

they are soft pussies

and the people that got involved with them are accountable
1. How can you defend making him?
Everyone loves a Monday morning quarterback. Easiest game in the world eh.
2. All these singers claim they were the last tough guy.
Where does Penisi claim that? He actually never does anything of the sort.
3. They are soft pussies.
Easy words from the bleaches ;)

My opinion.
1 true easy to monday qb you are right
but old timers wouldn't have taken him in my opinion

2 true i was categorizing the most recent talkers not him, I don;t know if he was tough I know he is maybe an insecure, unstable, killer over pussy, what real boss would want to be involved with this trash?
I agree with you on 2

3 of course true

While I enjoy listening to his interviews, I've also wondered why he got made. I mean, what exactly did he bring to the table? Seems the Luccheses did it simply to protect him from the Genovese.

The guy grew up in that neighborhood and therefore had pre existing understandings and connections to that life. Internal or external to the organization itself he still had links. He did a long prison stretch, so theoretically he could be perceived as a tough guy (he never claims to be). Then he showed he was very capable of violence. Murder. Therefore, when you combine all of that together and his options for legitimate employment being limited. You can see why he was attractive to today’s members of that life. Now I will say he was made extremely quickly, but that’s a byproduct of today’s mafia. Then I also believe his entire background helped expedite the process.

But Wiseguy is correct, wtf did he bring to the table in terms of production. Violence doesn’t seem to be as prevalent as years past. So you’d think hed offer something else. But as of now it doesn’t appear to be so.

we’ve all been asking how and why he got made so quickly the moment mafiastudent posted his trial transcripts in the FBI section. its truly baffling. Wiseguy summed it up perfectly with the “what did he bring to the table” question.

i can only think that Pennisi is not telling the full truth as to what he was really doing on the street. and that’s ok. love his interviews, his info, his general demeanor, and also love the fact that he has historic interest/knowledge in LCN; that makes his personal, first hand stories even better when he’s able to give second hand, historical context. BUT, at this point, I dont think we’re going to get the full, full picture as to what he was personally doing. You can kind of tell just from when he talks about how paranoid and circumventive he was when he was actually on the street, that hes not going to be the type now to go OD and hype up what he had going on. Because, he had to have something going on. Getting made by being a like-able, cool guy from the neighborhood in the right place at the right time, sounds like a one in a million. I think there is way more to his story that he doesnt want to, or cant, share

basically this, and the fact that the lucchese admin had already said that his name was being passed around when the west side had put in a beef to protect him

he already hinted that there is other stuff potentially coming down (when asked about his biggest score) that he cant share which makes sense why he has to be a bit coy about things/discussing certain guys

Some good info from the latest podcast on the situation with the Pernas:

Ralph and Johnny Perna were transferred to the Castelucci crew as a punishment. This came as a result of some trouble within the New Jersey crew that Pennisi did not know the details of. Ralph Perna had been knocked down to soldier and Richard DeLuca was the new captain. Joey Perna (the other Joey Perna, not Ralph's son) was acting captain. Once their 'penance' was over, they were transferred back to New Jersey and Joey Perna (Ralph's son) was sent to the Castelucci crew. When Joey Perna came to Staten Ialand he was happy to get away from the Jersey crew. Before he was a member he had been making a good amount of money in the sports betting business until his cousin Joey beat him up and robbed him of $100-125,000.

He mentions a social club next to Gargiulo's that I've actually mentioned here in the past. I was never sure what family it belonged to but Pennisi confirms it belongs to the Genovese family and a capo named Barry. I have no clue who that might be but a Genovese capo based out of Coney Island is interesting. Side note Gargiulo's recently sold their parking lot to a development company in a $100 million dollar deal. Coney Island has seen a decent amount of development in recent years.

The host doesnt ask good questions.Like when JP said perna was nodding off during the xmas party and castullucci instead of telling him to go home was taking pictures of him.Why was he taking pics of him?was it to fuck with him later or was he going to report him to the administration for being on heroin?
