Wish we had an updated photo. Everything is from over 30 years ago. It was the same with Tino for a long time too.

He shouldn't have to. I feel like it's done arbitrarily. Some convicts get released and they have worse records. I think race plays into now a little bit as well imo. But, he's not a danger to the community which is the primary point of contention about re offending and whether to be released or not. The sentence he received should not be considered. I mean sometimes they had sentences out like life sentence plus 50 years or 3 life sentences I mean whats the point of that extra time? Just so when he asked for compassionate release they can point to the amount of time he got and that makes the crimes he was guilty of more serious...

Going to trial in the Fed system can be very dangerous. Manna and Locasio could be Exhibit 1 and Exhibit 2. I'd bet both of these guys could have plead their cases and served 15 years. There was parole in the fed system at that time.

Where they offered a plea? I was young at the time, but everything I read about him i never recall one being mentioned.

See, that shouldn't be a requirement but you probably right. Again its arbitrary imo. Then again there are cases where people like fish cafaro were known to cooperate but didn't give up alot of info or something along those lines and his son stayed around. Im sure the are more cases like cafaros then we know about, maybe he can do something like that. Obviously I'm reaching here.

VERY rare is the case in the federal system that a plea is not offered. Every stage of the process pleas are being discussed. The system is set up to take pleas, not try cases. Locasio probably didn't consider pleading because Gotti said "no pleas" but I would bet both he and Gravano had or would have had a plea on the table. Might have been for 20-30 years but it would have been offered. Feds wanted heavy time to serve for sure.

Manna probably thought he had the chance to beat the charges or was afraid he could not outlive the sentence or was in a position where he could not admit guilt for other reasons, such as it was a global plea and someone refused or the politics of the situation i.e. "always deny" for political reasons between the families, prevented him from accepting.

Bobby Manna never got a chance to even attempt it. They were just caught talking about it. Most cases something like that can get you maybe 7-10 years but since I think it was a RICO but maybe it was just a conspiracy charge but im sure that previous convictions or charges didnt help.

I also think he should be released and I think it is unfair and bullshit. I bet you that the government wants him to die there because they assume hes killed several people and thats enough justification for them to keep him there. You dont get to be the consigliere of the west side without whacking a couple of wannabes.

The 80 years that Bobby Manna got was also based upon being convicted of arranging the execution of Irwin Schiff, an FBI informant who was skimming cash from the Genovese family. I think and Gene and John Gotti conspiracy were the other RICO predicates. I'm sure Schiff carried more weight than the Gotti case under the sentencing in that case. I would be surprised if they didn't offer him 25-30 years and he turned it down.

Wasn’t Manna’s conviction prior to Barney and Chin pleading out? I believe the consigliere after Manna, Jimmy Ida was allegedly steaming at Barney for accepting a plea. Went to trial and also received life so Manna may have been from the same cut as Ida.

I also remember reading that Manna was as fervently “anti government” as Gotti so another potential factor for him not pleasing out.
