what makes philly "successful?" boyhood pals - lots of inter family - dont give each other up. look at anthony n. and all the rest. no rats in that crew that grew up together.

what did them in? going outside of the boyhood pals circle once again.

previte, luisi, lou m., rubeo, persiano....
Rat Finger Lou Monacello was a childhood friend of Borgesi’s, they met as Teenagers in South Philly. Just pointing that out but I do agree with you that the inner core of that grew that have known each other since kids are as solid as a rock and a lot of their issues with rats do come out when they go outside the inner core crew.

But you almost have to in order to make big money in rackets, you deal with A LOT of people on a day to day basis just to successfully run one single lucrative street racket. Think about it, think about something as simple and as harmless as a gambling package how many people you have to deal with just to run that?

Ya I get it. Not saying they shouldnt be dealing with other people cause i get thats the gig just pointing out thats whos brought any real threat to them. No one in inner circle has told. I think that says a lot about their core friendship. I did not know that about lou. When i typed that i had that old picture of all of them in the clubhouse together and how none turned on each other. Thats hard to do in real life let alone crime.

Persiano, Piccolo, and Sal Pelullo were all Nicky Scarfo Jr guys who were in Nicky Jr’s crew largely based out of AC area (Persiano and Piccolo in particular) . They 100% weren’t made by Uncle Joe or Skinny.

Pelullo was mainly based out of the Mainline Philly suburbs in PA and almost exclusively ran the FirstPlus scam for Nicky Jr.

If you guys recall Nicky Jr was making a lot of moves in the AC area , putting together a crew, and “attempting” to take over the Philly family back in the mid to late 2000s when he was out on the streets and Uncle Joe was now as we know it Acting Boss just solidifying his position in the area. Nicky Jr wasn’t the first or the last you also had Pete Caprio plotting with NY family and Long John Martorano to take over the Philly family in the beginning of Uncle Joe’s run.

I don’t know about now in 2020 but back in Mid 2000s and on there were huge Sports betting packages in the AC area that generated tons of cash. You had a built in market of gamblers who needed to bet Sports and needed loans. Look at The Borgata bust that was just one single package and they only got caught because they were blatantly running it inside The Borgata in the Poker Lounge.

There are/were tons of other big sports betting packages and loan operations in the AC area with all the gamblers that gravitate to the area. The AC burbs were all the casino people live there were huge sports betting packages.

I have a feeling that these sports betting packages and loan operations were why Persiano and Piccolo were brought into the Philly family. Piccolo actually lived in AC and Persiano AC area - they operated in the area and were originally a part of Nicky Jrs AC area crew that was running around the area in the mid 2000s and on that Nicky Jr put together.

I will also bet that Dom G got Nicky Jr’s Crew Guys because Sammy Piccolo was his Uncle and the transition made sense to have them all fall under Dom when they came into the fold under Philly.

Then Persiano ends up burning them all in the end....

Just playing devil's advocate here but one can believe what Domenic Grande says when he outlines who the boss, underboss, etc. are in Philly but choose not to believe Domenic Violi on tape when he says he beat out thirty other guys for the underboss position in Buffalo. My point is you can't cherry pick where LCN activity is based on indictments alone. Posters caught hell for believing Violi when the words came right out of his own mouth.

If you want to believe that Buffalo inducted over twice as many new members as Philly in the same time frame and consequently had over twice the number of active members as Philly during the same period then have at it.

Still. You have to admit the inner core guys have not folded and there have been a lot of big charges over the years.

I was thinking the same. Merlino and all his close guys. Borgesi, chang, Stevie, Angelina and more.. aren’t just mob guys who do business together, they’re truly best friends since they were kids... and that shows... I think it would be near impossible to get those core guys to flip on one another...

Eh the mob is filled with guys who grew up together, were best friends or even blood relatives who ended up flipping on each other. Philly itself has plenty of examples of it. Though it is pretty remarkable that none of them have done it so far.

If Nicodemo didn’t flip, I doubt any of these guys would. These aren’t murder charges...

Scafidi was not part of the inner circle of Merlino’s group. He was friendly with them back in the day, but was mostly buddies with Scarfo Jr and his crew.

Violi proved that guys sitting behind a computer (like most of us) don't know squat about LCN. Last I checked it was a secret society.
