Make a good storybook but highly doubtful in reality. Gongs was such a loose cannon could he be counted on to do anything? He was getting into bar fights, screwing around with others wives, shooting up Phil Ligambi's house, stabbing Chico Debarge...you think they are going to assign a hit to him?

Why would they wait almost 2 years after the Long John hit to whack Gongs? I understand where you’re coming from but I feel like Gongs wouldn’t be the right guy to pick for whacking a high priority target who also happens to be a made guy. Plus, Gongs was believed to have shot up the house of Phillip Ligambi. Doesn’t seem like Ligambi’s go to guy for a hit.

He’s the perfect guy to pick if you plan to later kill him and silence him forever. It’s basically a murder than can never for a fact be blamed on Ligambi, cause the shooter is dead... and yeah gongs obviously wasn’t ligambi’s favorite, but it makes sense if they planned on getting rid of him after the hit...
Also.. waiting 2 years to clip someone is honestly nothing in the grand scheme of things.. obviously they weren’t going to drop another body right after long john, especially of the guy who is believed to be the shooter... shit in Canada they wait generations to get revenge and kill someone....

In theory, if Gongs could be controlled...yes, you could use him for that job. In practice, they would never use him for that job.

Up until the DiPietro hit disaster with Nicodemo and Grande they had an amazing, unheard of in modern times run of unsolved hits- Turchi, Long John, Maniscalco, Gongs, Marconi, and the Shine who was with the RAM Squad Off the top of my head. I’m probably missing some.

Yea Philly has a good track record when it comes to getting away with murder. Even with the Dipietro hit, the cops never arrested the shooter. Obviously it wasn’t a well planned out hit and doing it in broad daylight was a stupid idea. I think Nicodemo felt he was untouchable after he allegedly whacked Gongs and got away with it. The cops literally had the killers on tape walking into Gong’s house and yet still no arrests were made.

The Maniscalco hit was by far the cleanest, the cops don’t even have the slightest clue.

His family even offered a huge reward for information a year after the hit and the cops still have absolutely zero to go on. CLEAN
