If you follow Philly... does this sound familiar? They’ve got a ton of people in the area doing shit like this. Healthcare insurance fraud is probably their top racket right now I bet....

Huge Racket these days, there was a major bust of this exact same type of scheme in the Atlantic City area a few years ago. A lot of people taken down in it, average run of the mill civilians.

I fully agree... I think the drug use among made lcn members is way more rampant than most people think. I mean look at regular society and all the drug use.... then add a group of career criminals and I couldn’t imagine the drug use at a lower percentage than normal society.... half these guys provsbly have secret habits of some sort... whether coke or pills or meth.Mason_dixon wrote: ↑Mon Aug 31, 2020 5:47 pmI feel like drugs are so deeply ingrained in the Philly New Jersey culture that I bet there is more drug use than we would ever dream of with in LCN made men and assocites what kind of soldier are you if you don’t have Dr who will write you basically whatever you want ? I wonder what percentage of the areas drugs are supplied by the Bruno family in one way or another. I’d guess a pretty small piece but I really have no clue .Fughedaboutit wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 5:07 pmWhy would that kill him? He has sold drugs and more than likely used them also. But his son appeared to be a straight junkie.

Awesome comprehensive breakdown. Still have to give you credit on finding that Bocchino relation -- had never heard of that. Do you know the exact connection? Strange how Bocchino was murdered the same year Massimino came into the organization.
Nick Caramandi also briefly references him in his book. You can check to verify, but he mentions being in jail with a "Joe Mouse" or "Mousie" who he knows from the neighborhood.

I got the Bocchino-Massimino relation from a newspaper article I think from shortly after Bocchino was murdered. I found it when I got a free trial and went on a deep dive on newspapers.com, but I don't think I clipped the article for some reason. I'll check on the off chance I did clip it to see if it clarifies more. If not, I'll see if I can find what article it was - most likely an Anastasia piece or Kitty Caparella.

Does anyone know info on how the Philly family got a Boston crew started? The Decav's having a satellite crew in CT makes sense as it's an open state but it seems sort of random for Philly to have a crew operating in a city with it's own established family. I've always been curious about it.

A mutual friend who had done time with Natale made the introduction. This was after Luisi's father had been murdered and no-one wanted to make him up there. When Natale went to prison, Merlino sent word to Pete Caprio to ask the New York families for permission to make the Boston guys. New York said no, but Merlino made them anyway. Then they got stung by Previte and Luisi flipped.

Wasn't there something about the Genovese called him to a sit down and he refused to go?

If I remember right, it was people in Tino's crew. He said if they wanted to meet, they could come to Philly. Sounds like he didn't want to risk being another Caponigro.Fughedaboutit wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2020 2:20 pmWasn't there something about the Genovese called him to a sit down and he refused to go?

Re: Current Philadelphia Members
Its about the politics of LCN. Tino didn't have the power to summon Joey even though he was one of the most powerful leaders in the most powerful family. Only the commission does ("and they ain't meeting"). If he wants to see joey, he can come down to philly. Joey knows the politics front and back. You don't last for nearly 25 years on top without.

I don't recall but maybe some other posters might. It was discussed at length on the RD forum.Fughedaboutit wrote: ↑Wed Sep 23, 2020 9:42 amDo you recall what the meeting was supposed to be about that made him think it might be a set up to have him killed?Wiseguy wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2020 10:22 pmIf I remember right, it was people in Tino's crew. Don't know if was related but I vaguely recall an article or news report from 2003 that claimed NY didn't recognize Merlino and Ligsmbi and wanted to install Tino Fiumara as Boss of Philly. In retrospect the second part was most likely BS but it is interesting that Fiumara was mentioned in that regard. The sit down mentioned above would have been a few years earlier when Merlino was still on the street.

I wonder if it had anything to do with Scoops crew and their operations in Jersey. I believe Scoops was known as a pretty good earner?Wiseguy wrote: ↑Wed Sep 23, 2020 10:59 amI don't recall but maybe some other posters might.
