Video gambling raids in Western PA

Post by Wiseguy »

39 businesses raided and 178 illegal video gambling machines seized in Westmoreland County, PA. Zucco Vending also raided. Not sure about any mob connections.

About Zucco Vending

Zucco Vending was started in the 1950's by Dom Zucco with just a few machines. He steadily grew the business to include cigarette machines, pinball, and juke boxes. The business took a large jump in the late 1970's with the video game boom and the addition of a skinny, pimply faced son of a restaurant owner to the one man service dept, little Jimmy Tartal. Mr. Zucco earned the respect of everyone he met with his class, professionalism, and personality.

After the untimely passing of Mr. Zucco in 1988, the business was run by the Zucco family, acquiring family friend and welder extraordinaire, Guy DeLuca. In the following years, the business grew leaps and bounds, doing large game rooms, resorts, and starting running ticket redemption games that are now a staple in any arcade area.

On March 1, 1994 the business was purchased and incorporated by long time employees and friends, Jim Tartal and Guy DeLuca. Years of working side by side for very long hours, and learning every aspect of the business gave them the confidence that they could succeed. The business continued to grow, starting a very successful electronic dart league in 1986. Their service department and office staff grew to meet the demands of the growing business, which now includes digital juke boxes and ATMs.

The professional service and courteous staff continue to give unparalleled service to all of our locations. Over the years in the business, our clients are just not business associates, they have become great friends and part of our family.
All roads lead to New York.

Frank Nannicola, owner of Nannicola Inc., one of the country's largest bingo and game suppliers, was the son in law to Charles "Charlie Mugie" Imburgia. Anthony "Tony" Murgie, Charlie's nephew and owner of L.A. Motors, Mike Genovese's long time "employer" still lives in the Pittsburgh area. IMO, the states are just cracking down on video gambling machines so they could push their state lottery bank through the roof. Sonny Ciancutti used to have machines and John "Duffy" Conley was considered Pennsylvania's video poker machine baron. It wouldn't shock me if they were purchasing gaming supplies from Nannicola. When Charlie Imburgia was alive, one of his biggest rackets was skimming proceeds from major bingo games in the tri state area (OH, PA, WV). Jimmy Prato in Youngstown and Paul Romeo were also involved, I'm talking about 750 bingo games per month with 400 plus players at every game. To put that into perspective, the Pacar Center, which was a large social hall where licensed bingo games were operated would take home an average of $35k throughout the day. Charlie, Jimmy & Paul ensured that the "bingo operators or game callers" were taken care of financially and the rest was all profit. No cops to pay off because the bingo games were legally permissible. This went on for 40+ years. Chances are, "somebody" involved in this bust most likely associated with somebody connected. The last bust in Pittsburgh a few years ago involved several guys connected to former associates and made guys of the now defunct LaRocca Crime Family. Goes to show that illegal gambling on some scale will never go away.

Indiana County was a hotbed for very early Black
Hand activity, amazing history there.

Indiana is where I live. For a "small" town it has always had a lot going on. One of the bars I go to here got hit. They would pay out regulars but not strangers. It's a very locals only type place. College students are not welcome.

I just was wondering if they raid Nannicola get the records where the machines went. Go on from there. Interesting to say the least.
