They took too much. Got greedy.
Glick told author Nicholas Pileggi that he expected to meet a banker-type individual, but instead, he found Alvin Baron to be a gruff, tough-talking cigar-chomping Teamster who greeted him with, “What the fuck do you want?”

Nah I think they would have been caught anyways...I mean were they already monitoring Chierchio or did the lottery victims report it stolen?

Scams like this are designed to fail. I cant really see something like this going on indefenitely without someone getting wise.

I think they're fucked. It's BIG money they cant pay back, there's a clear paper trail that can be shown and summarized by the govt. enough for any jury to see what this really was, or else the money is just gone somehow wherever there is no paper trail, there's laughing at the FBI on tape, there's made guys and grandsons of made guys and allegedly threats to murder. All that together and just the size of the money is too much to result in short time. Just my opinion but I think these guys are going to get nailed.

I doubt they will get that much time. Look at Campos and Martino ,they had a scam bigger then this and they only got around 5 years. I remember reading in one of Jerrys articles that martino was paying 400 and month in restitution for 9.1million he owed. What a joke!!

This Chris guy is slick . The victims certainly have a civil / SEC case but criminal fraud might be harder to prove if the paper work was legit and the Cos weren’t shells and he seemed to have thought that thru.

Interesting he got off on the bid rigging case which is another blurry civil vs criminal type case

The Gambino Par funding is another similar blurry civil / SEC vs criminal type case.

Fascinating shit as some crews seemed to have tapped into some very lucrative business loan / private investment rackets. The merchant advance business has been booming as it’s business loansharking and legal and I wouldn’t be surprised LCN is a player in the business.

this chierchio guy is interesting. almost like a renaissance man mobster. seems pretty active as a Medium.com contributor writing about philanthropy, places to visit in NYC, etc. not taking anything away from what could be his personal interests and softer side, but him moving in those circles is also probably a work, just as well, as it puts him around more legit and refined people with money. just like living in a luxury rental in the city, instead of out somewhere ‘regular’ in the boros.

anyone know what crew he could possibly be in?

As much as it seems strange and unlikely to us when we see a made member of the mafia on social media, LinkedIn, etc., you have to remember that this is the new normal. Mafia members used to join civic organizations and find ways to appear legitimate in the community in the pre-internet world, but in the digital age I think it is more to their advantage to have an online presence. I don't know that it even has to be part of some strategy, only that it is the world they now live in.

As much as it seems weird that Philly members show up in Instagram photos with each other all the time, they have been using the defense that they are all childhood / neighborhood friends for decades now. Showing up with each other all the time in public photos says "we are friends and we have nothing to hide." Again, I don't even know that it's a strategy, as they are childhood / neighborhood friends who also happen to be mafia members. Personally I think it's an effective defense, at least for the modern age, especially when you compare it to mafia members hiding their faces with newspapers and having suspicious walk-talks. It's less suspicious when you do see footage of Philly members doing a walk-talk given they are with each other all the time anyway.

Chierchio’s strategy of trying to pose as a legitimate member of society may have worked in his favor, as he was acquitted of bid rigging last year. Of course, I don’t know the ins and outs of that case, it could have just been a weak one. Chierchio seemed to have posted a lot on his website, mainly about NYC. The self-written bio about how he loves god, family, and NYC plastered all over the internet seems like a good defense strategy to employ. I can see a jury buying it, and they did previously.
