A large portion is luck as well.
You could’ve asked this question in 2000 about the Bonanno’s who prior to Coppa had ZERO rats.
Look how that turned out.
Except a lot of pressure was off the Bonannos for at least a decade before the rats came out once the heat was back on. The Genovese have been hit by law enforcement again and again, with no such reprieve, and they haven't had a max exodus of people running to the government like the other families.
Genovese have had 10 members flip, Gambino 12, not much in it
Genovese Crime Family - 8 Members who have Flipped
Anthony “Bingy” Arilotta- Soldier
George Barone- Soldier (Dead)
John “Futto” Biello- Capo (Killed)
Vincent "Fish" Cafaro- Soldier
Felix Tranghese- Capo
Joseph "Joe Cago" Valachi- Soldier (Dead)
Louis Moscatiello- Soldier/Acting Capo (Dead)
Renaldi “Ray” Ruggiero - Capo
10. from the chart section.
Members Who Have Flipped:
Anthony “Bingy” Arilotta/Soldier
George Barone/Soldier (Dead)
John “Futto” Biello/Capo (Killed)
Vincent "Fish" Cafaro/Soldier
Eugene “Gino” Farina/Soldier (Killed)
Louis Moscatiello/Soldier/Acting Capo (Dead)
Renaldi “Ray” Ruggiero/Capo
Felix Tranghese/Capo
Charles Trentacosta/Soldier
Joseph "Joe Cago" Valachi/Soldier (Dead)
Moscatiello was a bronx guy I think if he flipped he wouldn't have died from cancer in a prison hospital they would have bailed him out and alot of guys would have been indicted on labor ract.
Says he took a 78month pleal deal for the union stuff. Him and dinapoli started there own plastering union in 1978 separate from drywall tapers. The skin coat making the difference. Pretty smart. He was there construction guy. He flips I think they would have solve the Ralph Coppola hit maybe. But they kinda did. Idk

The feds never really solved the hit completely. They only got one guy for conspiracy to kill Coppola.
I haven't even heard of 5 of those names on the Genovese rat list. Could insulation be one reason these guys didn't do much damage? I mean, they told what they knew, and what they knew wasn't much because they were kept insulated from anything that could seriously damage the family. Just an opinion.
To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize

I'd categorize them this way...
These guys are for-sure members who flipped. Everyone knows Valachi in the 1960's. Cafaro in the 1980s, who was with Fat Tony. Barone in the early 2000's (if I remember right), who was involved in the waterfront rackets. Arrilotta and Tranghese from Springfield in the mid-2000's. And Ruggiero from Florida in the mid-2000's.

Vincent "Fish" Cafaro/Soldier
George Barone/Soldier (Dead)
Anthony “Bingy” Arilotta/Soldier
Felix Tranghese/Capo
Renaldi “Ray” Ruggiero/Capo
These guys I would put an asterisk next to their name and anyone who came before Valachi for the reasons I stated.
Charles Trentacosta/Soldier
John “Futto” Biello/Capo (Killed)
Eugene “Gino” Farina/Soldier (Killed)
I'd put a question mark next to his name because I'm not 100% convinced he did flip.

It’s very unique with the Genovese. You can’t say it isn’t about making anyone. At their peak they had what nearly 300 made men; twice the size of the three smaller families. It seems at their absolute core the leadership have been guys who were really in it for the love of the organisation rather than men of real vice. Now it’s hard to say what really motivates or motivated men whom I never met and know only from footage and pics, but they don’t seem to be the flashy party boys of the mob. Men who want women, drugs, booze and anything for the dopamine hit are the ones least likely to sacrifice it for a long jail sentence. The guys who are in it for a good living and a belief in the organisation are harder to sway. They had the best from the beginning: Costello, Luciano, Genovese and their next crop were really low-key businessman.
They seem to be mostly involved with crimes that are easy to plea down.
Glick told author Nicholas Pileggi that he expected to meet a banker-type individual, but instead, he found Alvin Baron to be a gruff, tough-talking cigar-chomping Teamster who greeted him with, “What the fuck do you want?”

Why do you Louis ratted? He took a plea and died in the can. Louis from the Bronx?

Louis M from the bronx? Morris Park? He did not flip.
Are you including dry snitches in with Rats who never testified? They exist in every family...

Those are the ones I would put an asterisk next to because they are much harder to identify than the ones who did testify. And, if you're making comparisons between families, it can lead to false conclusions.

The genovese also were the first I believe to have made it a rule or at least attempt to have members not be introduced to other members.
