Brief Summary: basically the ‘Ndrangheta have been taking advantage of the Italian healthcare system for years, but Covid has allowed them to make even more money. They’ve gained access to hospital information systems and are able to find out which people are near death or just died. From the article.....“The men from the funeral company somehow knew which patients passed before their families even did. If relatives considered picking a different funeral company to take away their loved one, the men would soon ensure they changed their mind”.

They’ve set up countless front companies to receive government funding for Covid related purposes. Not only has it allowed them to make more money but it’s also provided additional money laundering avenues.

They’ve completely taken control of hospitals in some areas. Direct quote from the piece: “ So tight was the clans’ grip that doctors in Lamezia Terme reported having to wait outside a hospital ward for men from the ‘Ndrangheta to open the door with their keys”.
