A large portion is luck as well.
You could’ve asked this question in 2000 about the Bonanno’s who prior to Coppa had ZERO rats.
Look how that turned out.

Re: Genovese rats
Except a lot of pressure was off the Bonannos for at least a decade before the rats came out once the heat was back on. The Genovese have been hit by law enforcement again and again, with no such reprieve, and they haven't had a max exodus of people running to the government like the other families.SonnyBlackstein wrote: ↑Sat Jul 11, 2020 9:13 am A large portion is luck as well.

Re: Genovese rats
Ray patriarch jr was the first official boss to really plead guilty to Rico charges he got like 9yrs and if you look at the charges they were mostly gambling across state lines. It looked bad in 1990 to do that but it was smart he didnt get the 20+ the feds wanted him to do but it also set I think a precedent for bosses to plead out. Many genovese bosses have and a few even admit to being part of the family and it's not held against them it's just business which is smart
Re: Genovese rats
There was a story in the Selwyn Raab book about a made Genovese guy who had no idea what family he was in. Sorry I can't remember his name
Re: Genovese rats
Gas pipe said in interviews his lawyer negotiated a 24yr prison sentence in 93 he should have took it he would have been out atleast 8yrs ago

Yea definitely the Westside is very lucky. The feds could’ve nailed a lot of guys for murder, but it seemed the suspects lucked out. For example, Ralph Coppola in 1998 and Lawrence Ricci in 2005. The fbi has a good idea about who was responsible/ ordered the murders but because the evidence they had was weak, nothing much came of the cases. (I only remember a soldier got a relatively short sentence for the Ralph Coppola murder conspiracy.) My point being, if more Genovese guys were pinched for murder its likely the family would have more informants. Like Gene Borello said, guys dont flip when they face 5 years. They flip when their facing football numbers.SonnyBlackstein wrote: ↑Sat Jul 11, 2020 9:13 am A large portion is luck as well.

Wise men listen and laugh, while fools talk.
Re: Genovese rats
Then look what happend with al bruno's murder. A few guys got life a few guys flipped and basically screwed up a large crew that was thriving in new england for 100yrs. Bad luck
Re: Genovese rats
Don't forget Rudy Izzi in 2007. Is it luck or that they did a good job of carrying out those hits?slimshady_007 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 11, 2020 10:11 amYea definitely the Westside is very lucky. Re: Genovese rats
Do the Genovese have less drug busts than other families? I'm wondering if this is why they get all of these sweet plea deals where they're out in like 5 years.
Glick told author Nicholas Pileggi that he expected to meet a banker-type individual, but instead, he found Alvin Baron to be a gruff, tough-talking cigar-chomping Teamster who greeted him with, “What the fuck do you want?”

And while they never shied away from murder it seems they weren't as kill crazy as the other families. Over time that leads to less murder indictments and thus less informants as well less paranoia that leads to people defecting over fears (real or imagined) of being killed.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.
Re: Genovese rats
You can look over the last 20 years and the Genovese have probably had less drug cases than they otherwise should, considering their size. Comparatively speaking, they aren't as deeply involved as the Gambinos or the Bonannos (a smaller family). But they have still had a good number over time.Grouchy Sinatra wrote: ↑Sat Jul 11, 2020 12:09 pm Do the Genovese have less drug busts than other families? In The Five Families Raab mentioned a Bonanno captain, can't remember the name but he was close to Massino & ratted, that didn't understand a bit of Italian & didn't know what Cosa Nostra meant.furiofromnaples wrote: ↑Sat Jul 11, 2020 2:08 pmI remember that was a colombo wiseguy and that thinked that Cosa Nostra means Our Friends.
