Anybody ever been to Thompson & Houston Streets for the Fireworks mid 70s thru mid 80s ? The roof top of Memorial hall was used to launch 100s of mortars that were given by Chin Gigante every 4th of July . Fireworks would last about 2 hours and the whole neighborhood would smell of gunpowder for days ! Chin would sit across the street at Arturos outside tables to watch the show as the kids on the rooftop would be igniting everything from a firecracker to mortars . Was just like a mini Macy’s show . The whole neighborhood was there to enjoy it and I do not remember anyone getting hurt. Could never try this today !

An Indian ghetto? I'm guessing it's a hotspot for bootleg software and stolen math books.

Well if the white people were moving out before the minorities moved in, that that could only mean the white people who moved were trying to get away from their own white people. Honestly can't say I blame them. Happy 4th.

I mean I'm sure part of it was assimilation. People moving to greener pastures, etc. But they didn't seem to have much pride in their old neighborhoods. They were quick to leave their fellow white people behind. Kind of messed up. The whites left behind didn't have the money or political clout to stop an influx of minority newcomers. Or were the poor whites just too lazy to better their situation? What is the problem with white people who can't lift themselves by the boostraps and get out of these neighborhoods that have been taken over by minorities? Chris Rock once said that poor white people are just sad. There really is no excuse. The system is designed for you to succeed.

Wow penetrating insight from Chris Rock. A perfect example of how the system is stacked in the other direction.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

White people who are living in places like Queens and The Bronx and don't like the growing diversity really have no excuse for being there other than laziness and apathy.
