Anyone 40 or younger generally thought Casino was the best mob movie as it came out when we were teens. I remember we even gave each other nicknames from the names in the movie. We were too young for Goodfellas when it first came out (I was 10 then) and Casino came out when we were 15 and we had already been driving for 2 years so we thought that was the best shit ever. Of course that was before we knew what all was fact and what wasn't etc. but that's why Casino seems to be the favorite with the younger crowd. Hell for me, The Departed is still my favorite even though it's not a full blown true mafia flick.

Did anyone notice the term "niggardly" in that pic that was posted of the newspaper story? You won't see that used anymore

I actually liked Casino more than I did Goodfellas, I just found the times and the way things worked in that era of Vegas much more fascinating. Both are my two favorite mob movies, for sure.

On another note, whoever said Gotti is their favorite, with John Travolta, I feel so bad for you. That film was a fucking travesty.

Same. I also prefer the setting of the glitter and glamour of Vegas over gritty Brooklyn. The characters are larger than life too. It's much more 'grandeur' so to speak. I prefer The Godfather Part II above Part I for the same reason (even though both are my favorites). Casino is a cinematographic masterpiece. It's The Godfather mixed with Lawrence of Arabia (another favorite of mine).

I’m no Michael Franzese fanboy, but Ori Spado denies ever being a drug dealer and claims that he helped John Franzese Jr. get off drugs. Spado was, in reality, a big time cocaine dealer through the 2000s who set up cross-country cocaine deals from LA to Chris Curanovic and Michael Catapano, among others, in NY. I could be wrong about Catapano but I know that he too was convicted of cocaine dealing and I believe he was also part of the pseudo-investigation from the Colombo family into whether Ori Spado was secretly hiding drug-dealing profits from the family.

Man, I need to do a write up on Spado because, unfortunately, he is useless as far as mob information. He was ditched by the FBI and then by the Colombos after years as an associate.

Ori Spado had a proffer meeting with the FBI in the early 00s’ IIRC. I believe it had to do with the Herbie Blitzstein murder. Kenji posted the full clip on his YouTube channel. Chris Curanovic was actually tape-recorded talking about the audio recordings.

Have you ever read his book? He kinda does explain why he turned....at least in his mind...
