The Departed is the end all be all. Love that film.dixiemafia wrote: ↑Sun Jun 28, 2020 2:23 pm Anyone 40 or younger generally thought Casino was the best mob movie as it came out when we were teens. I remember we even gave each other nicknames from the names in the movie. We were too young for Goodfellas when it first came out (I was 10 then) and Casino came out when we were 15 and we had already been driving for 2 years so we thought that was the best shit ever. Of course that was before we knew what all was fact and what wasn't etc. but that's why Casino seems to be the favorite with the younger crowd. Hell for me, The Departed is still my favorite even though it's not a full blown true mafia flick.

I think many of the younger people don't even know Casino. It's always been overshadowed by Goodfellas. I was 10 when Casino came out but only saw it for the first time ten years later.dixiemafia wrote:Anyone 40 or younger generally thought Casino was the best mob movie as it came out when we were teens. I actually liked Casino more than I did Goodfellas, I just found the times and the way things worked in that era of Vegas much more fascinating. Both are my two favorite mob movies, for sure.Lupara wrote: ↑Sun Jun 28, 2020 7:07 pmI think many of the younger people don't even know Casino. It's always been overshadowed by Goodfellas. On another note, whoever said Gotti is their favorite, with John Travolta, I feel so bad for you. That film was a fucking travesty.

He is referring to the HBO version with Armand Assante. I also prefer Casino to Goodfellas.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.
Re: RE: Re: Franzese has some racket
Same. I also prefer the setting of the glitter and glamour of Vegas over gritty Brooklyn. The characters are larger than life too. It's much more 'grandeur' so to speak. I prefer The Godfather Part II above Part I for the same reason (even though both are my favorites). Casino is a cinematographic masterpiece. It's The Godfather mixed with Lawrence of Arabia (another favorite of mine).Pogo The Clown wrote:He is referring to the HBO version with Armand Assante. I also prefer Casino to Goodfellas.

As I've said many times, the elite of mob cinema is...
The Godfather movies
Goodfellas
Casino
The Sopranos
If you never saw another mob movie or TV show besides those, you'd be OK.
That's not to say there aren't some other great mob flicks. But those above are in a league of their own.

I’m no Michael Franzese fanboy, but Ori Spado denies ever being a drug dealer and claims that he helped John Franzese Jr. get off drugs. Spado was, in reality, a big time cocaine dealer through the 2000s who set up cross-country cocaine deals from LA to Chris Curanovic and Michael Catapano, among others, in NY. I could be wrong about Catapano but I know that he too was convicted of cocaine dealing and I believe he was also part of the pseudo-investigation from the Colombo family into whether Ori Spado was secretly hiding drug-dealing profits from the family.mafiastudent wrote: ↑Sun Jun 28, 2020 5:46 pm New beef between Ori Spado and Franzese???? Man, I need to do a write up on Spado because, unfortunately, he is useless as far as mob information. He was ditched by the FBI and then by the Colombos after years as an associate.
Michael Franzese claims Ori Spado sold heroin to John Franzese Jr. and, after hearing Spado’s disingenuous reaction to that allegation on VladTV, I’m pretty sure that he did.

Re: Franzese has some racket
Ori Spado had a proffer meeting with the FBI in the early 00s’ IIRC. I believe it had to do with the Herbie Blitzstein murder. Kenji posted the full clip on his YouTube channel. Chris Curanovic was actually tape-recorded talking about the audio recordings.

Kenji had it online for close to 7 years while Spado was still an associate. Kenji later remarked: "They (Colombos) should have checked my blog, man, they would have known he was a rat!" He's not entirely wrong.
Never seen the interview, I'll watch it now, want to have a look-see what he says about Franzese. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rX1sEpd3gE4

Franzese states that the way a family is recognized as a mafia depends on their boss gaining a seat on the commission and states 9 Families.... he later goes on to state he's not a historian.
Spado trash talk.
30:35 "Chin says if you want to be with me, I'll work it out and you can switch families. Chin was the most powerful man in New York, what Chin wanted he got. If he wanted me moved, he would have made it happen."
37:10 When asked if its ok to testify against cops he responds: "In our life it's not ok to testify against anybody." Stamp that, because he testified so any "but not against made guys" argument is pretty much voided.
45 What he says about sitdowns is pretty interesting. He states that if someone is lying to you across the table you can't just call him a liar you need to outmaneuver him by proving that he's lying.
49 Oh Jesus Christ. "While in jail I was with Carmine Persico who said he's going to make me acting boss until Allie comes home. I said I got the gas racketeering trial I can't do that. So Carmine says: 'Ok I'll give it to Vic Orena.' So I said "Ok, you're making a mistake but you're the boss you do what you want."
(Notice he only said this AFTER Carmine died.
1:30:00 Discusses why guys become informants, omits his own flipping.
1:32:00 Seems like he's very careful what he says about Gravano. The only jibe he takes is he describes Gravano's interview and how he mentally yelled at one of his victims while in front of their casket at their wake and he says: "Did you do that 19 times?" Franzese's got jokes.
All in all, not bad. He inflates his own stories but some things he lays out which seem accurate.
