I haven't seen any figures but it wouldn't surprise me. The family under Stanfa was divided in a war over what side got to shake down who.

What’s the confidence level that all the soldiers are known and/or publicly id’d? Gotta be some under the radar guys for that many capos

For a smaller, well-covered family like Philly, I doubt there's more than a possible handful that are unidentified. Membership figures have been pretty consistent over the years and it seems they have no qualms being relatively top-heavy with more captains than they probably need.

At least in the past, the DeCavalcantes were likewise top-heavy. I remember seeing one government chart that showed 7 captains. And this was a family with 40-50 members total.

Just seems so low for the amount of risk andaw scrutiny they get...
I know and understand that thrill of the life and all.... But damn.
If you grew up in a blue collar household, where $50k a year is a decent paycheck, the ability to make extra money on the streets to increase your income has a huge appeal.

But nowadays, making six figures illegally, even a $1-2 million, doesn’t seem like that much money for the headaches the life brings. I mean, how much money is worth the risk of doing a twenty year bid under RICO? At least with gambling and bookmaking rackets, the guys usually get 5 years or less.. or even probation.

For the past few decades, it’s been too easy to go to college and get a decent paying job live a solid middle class lifestyle. Not to mention skipping college and learning a trade and making six figures barely out of high school.

That’s one of the biggest reasons the mob has died out, the risk vs reward ratio isnt worth it for so many people. Then the only guys left to recruit from either have drug problems or behavioral issues.
I think its like Tony Blundetto after went out prison and can't manage to take the honest job or Gismone and Bevilacqua case. They wanted this tipe of live,I mean the criminal life where you dont stay in a 9 am to 5 pm job but you can gamble, steal make fraud wear expensive clothes and fuck with beautiful women.
I think its also a question of respect:everyone fear a mobsters and most of philly made men grown under Scarfo regime.
What I want to say its that doesnt matter hw made in a year but the fact that can live their lifes as best they can.
Its just a my opinion.

It was actually 9 captains since Vinny Palermo and Charlie Majuri were also capos. Though both of their crews were dispersed to other captains when they moved up to the panel.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

Wow, 9 captains in a family of maybe 50 members at the time.

What about other fans such as trafficante or patriacra?? What's there capo status??

Likewise with the DeCav’s, by the time of the big bust they were up to 9 capo’s according to a government exhibit chart. Of course, for example, Frank Polizzi was a captain but with no soldiers.

Polizzi in his hey day was a huger earner... He was a life long heroin importer and dealer on the wholesale. Perhaps the higher ups thought adding a crew of soldiers under him put the spot light on everyone since he was a junk dealer.

Ligambi made more than Stanfa now that we have all the history and information. I think the Philly Family is just a bunch of guys who are friends just doing some slightly illegal stuff anymore. A little bookmaking. A little extortion. Some legit construction. A legit business here or there. Sell some drugs. They all kind of doing a little of everything to make some real money NONE of them wanting to go back to prison at this point.

Who thinks this is a real LCN family?

The FBI agents, prosectors who want a high profile case to win and George Anastasia and Dave Schratwieser. George and Dave inflate this "family" more than anyone.

But Anastasia himself has said on numerous occasions recently that he’s not even sure they are worth covering anymore. He said on Philly Prime that unless there was a big bust in the next year or so, he probably **wouldnt** cover them anymore. He’s said other things about the “pie” being much smaller than it ever was. Schratweiser still talks them up but I’ve really gotten the impression from GA that he thinks they have very little going on. Or at least whatever they have going on is way off the Feds radar. But even Schratweiser has said he’s under the impression that none of those guys seem worried about impending indictments. GA and DS spent a year plus talking about a potential major Philly indictment coming down, and it’s just never happened.
