He was a Campisi associate. I remember reading in "To Drop A Dime" when they arrested him, LE told him if he cooperated they would let his mother go (his mother was arrested the same day as him on drug charges I believe), Herbie told the feds "If you got a beef with her, that's her problem, don't blame me, the old lady needs to carry her own weight". I believe Leroy Nicky Barnes was incacerated near him in Marion. When Barnes decided to cooperate with the US Attorney's Office - one of the first people he set up was Sperling.
