Vito Genovese and Joseph Bruno

Anyone know if these two had any dealings with one another? There is an article in the paper down here about Genovese being Godfather to one of Bruno's daughters.

The Godmother” of Palm Beach County politics died this week.

The small obituary notice of Maria Bruno’s death at 81 was both restrained and cryptic, two qualities that couldn’t be further from the life she lived.

She lived a full life and will be missed by many,” her brief obituary notice read.

Those are scant words to cover the six husbands, her status as both an informant and a target of different criminal prosecutions, or the years when you couldn’t be a serious Democrat or Republican in Palm Beach County without making sure that this volatile force of nature was in your corner.

So it doesn’t seem right to give a woman who lived so large — a woman whose “Godmother” street cred includes being the actual goddaughter of Mafia crime boss Vito Genovese — such a meager send off.

I'm not sure about the godfather bit, but Joe Bruno was close to the NYC families during his time as Philly boss. There were only a few years between Vito Genovese's return to the US post-WWII and Joe Bruno's death in the mid-40s, so hard to say. Maybe they were close in the early 1930s but I have never seen anything.

Wish we knew more about the relationships between some of the other east coast bosses in the 1930s - 1950s and the NYC families. Before it became clear there was a separate family in NJ, LE thought Nick Delmore was a caporegime in the Genovese family and he was said to be close to Vito.
