FBI chart Mafia meetings 1928 to 1957
To Everyone: Almost finished reading "In The Godfather Garden" by Richard Linnett, an unassumingly good read about the life and times of New Jersey Genovese capo Ruggiero "Richie the Boot" Boiardo. On page 70 of the hardcover edition, there is this reference: "According to an FBI chart tracking the ten major meetings of the Mafia in the United States between 1928 and 1957,...………." The reference goes on to cite a Livingston, New Jersey meeting of Cosa Nostra figures at Boiardo's home 4 days before Apalachin as one of the 10 meetings, and the second biggest of the 10. Obviously, Apalachin was the biggest.
My question is, has anyone on this Forum, especially the academics here, seen or heard of this chart before? In all my readings over the decades, I have never come across reference to such a chart. I was wondering if anyone here has a copy, or at least can list the entire 10 meetings from the chart? Other than Apalachin and this Livingston, NJ, meeting, I assume the 1928 Cleveland meeting and the 1929 Atlantic City meeting are 2 others. That is 4. I won't count the allegedly Luciano-hosted meeting in Havana, since that is outside the United States. Did the Feds know about the Maranzano "self-cornonation" meeting in 1931 before Valachi's revelation? Did the going away party for Luciano aboard the "Laura Keene" count as a "meeting"?
I would prefer not to speculate on the 10 meetings, and prefer to know if anyone here on this Forum has the chart, or the actual list from the chart.
Thank you in advance for your interest and participation.
Regards,
BeatiPaoli

First I'm ever hearing about it. I'd be quite interested in seeing it.

To Everyone: Just realized, on 2nd thought, I probably should have posted this on the "Mafia Charts" section; but, on 3rd thought, the question will probably get more exposure here, and it is more of an academic question. My apologies in advance if my posting lacks Forum propriety.

You're fine. There's no protocol to it. The charts that I create I post here (for exposure) and later move them to the Charts section so I do the same thing.BeatiPaoli wrote: ↑Sat May 16, 2020 6:19 pm To Everyone: Just realized, on 2nd thought, I probably should have posted this on the "Mafia Charts" section; but, on 3rd thought, the question will probably get more exposure here, and it is more of an academic question. To Chris Christie: Thank you. I appreciate that. I rarely post, so I would'n't want to inadvertantly break the rules.
Looking forward to all responses!

Antiliar would be the only one I think who'd know. Lennert too.
Re: FBI chart Mafia meetings 1928 to 1957
Yes, I have seen it, but it really isn't that great... If you expect a lot of names of attendants of these various meetings, you will be disappointed...

Re: FBI chart Mafia meetings 1928 to 1957
Thanks for posting that.
Come up with a list of names and I'll make one. Been thinking of doing more with maps anyway. I'd like to chart Families that had "elders" or "Ruling panels" of seniors- KC, Detroit, Tampa, Pittston, Milwaukee, San Francisco. It's a phenomenon that's less known and understood, including myself fully.

Re: FBI chart Mafia meetings 1928 to 1957
To Lennert: MANY THANKS for posting that chart!!!! It is too bad there is not a list of names corresponding to each meeting; the FBI must have had some inkling as to attendees. Among the plethora of books written on organized crime/Cosa Nostra over the decades, certain of those 10 individual meetings must have been referenced within the body of some of those books and expounded upon. Some I recognized; others I do not.
To Chris Christie: Thank you for your assistance! BTW, a chart on Family Elders would be enlightening!
Hereon, I would hope this thread would be used as a repository for any Forum members who wish to post alleged attendees of the various 10 meetings, so from time to time we may be able to gain some insight as to the attendees and the purpose of the meeting.
What would be most additionally interesting is Cosa Nostra meetings since 1957 that would have made the list had the FBI continued the list (which I assume they would have). "Little Apalachin" in 196? immediately comes to mind, along with a little-known alleged meeting in New England (? Johnston, RI) around 1950 at which the head of the New England Family, Philip Bruccola, retired and Raymond Patriarca became the new boss.

A little bit off topic...anyone ever came across some info about an alleged commission meeting in June 1934 in Louisville, Kentucky?

Re: FBI chart Mafia meetings 1928 to 1957
The Commission had formal meetings every five years beginning in 1931, where they would also re-elect Commission members or add/remove members. Joe Bonanno discussed this in his book and so did his cousin Magaddino on his office bug, along with other sources. They appear to have had smaller meetings to solve specific issues in the interim between the scheduled meetings. If there were rumored Commission meetings in between the planned five year meetings, we could try to see if there were important events going on in the mafia during those specific times.
Any more info on the 1946 Atlantic City meeting on that map? That would fit the pattern of five year meetings beginning in 1931, assuming it was a Commission meeting.
Prior to Apalachin they held the scheduled Commission meeting in Binghamton in 1956. I believe Joe Bonanno claimed 1961 was the last official meeting of the Commission based on the original guidelines set up for the body. Both of these meetings fit the five year pattern starting in 1931. Of course the Commission continued to function regardless of Bonanno's claims and interestingly the La Stella meeting took place in 1966, when the next planned Commission meeting would have happened.

Sam Olivero was really Salvatore Oliveri who was representing the Calumet City area. He had fled Chicago during the Capone/Aiello war and took refuge in Rockford where he was listed as a member of that family. He eventually passed away in that city in 1969.

Re: FBI chart Mafia meetings 1928 to 1957
I interpreted these 5 year annual meets as a continuation of the General Assembly- national meeting of bosses and underlings. We know the Commission met infrequently but was composed of 5-7 bosses, hence not the G.A. To me, Appalachin is the last GA meeting in the US.B. wrote: ↑Mon May 18, 2020 2:33 am The Commission had formal meetings every five years beginning in 1931, where they would also re-elect Commission members or add/remove members. If you believe Bill Bonanno, Costello was made official boss in 1946 at one such GA meeting on a boat off the course of Florida if I recall correctly.
