Re: The Genovese Crime Family
My great grandfather was Luigi “Lou Lombardo” Laudiero.
Somewhere between the late 50’s - 70’s he, along with 3 other silent partners ran the world famous Peppermint Lounge club for the Genovese Crime family. He played a significant role within the organization, the whole reason Joey Dee and the Starliters “Doing the Twist” became such a hit, Joey Dee who is in occasional contact with my Uncle. There are various photos which you can find on Google of my Great Grandfather with various celebrities of that time. Such as; The Beetles, Jackie and John Kennedy, Sharon Tate, Joe Pesci, and many more.
Here is one of those many photos, my Aunt who resides in California has the rest which cannot be found anywhere.
This is him greeting The Beetles during their first time in America. The man was responsible for not only the rise of their career, but many other who are not considered legendary figures within the music industry.
I can provide more photos, however I won’t be seeing my Aunt until July

Re: The Genovese Crime Family
No problem, thanks for reading. I intend on sharing more, I just don’t currently have access to the really good stuff until I see my Aunt, just what google (which blows my mind seeing my great grandfather in these pictures online) has available.
Here are a couple more I have found online:
This is the only color one I could find, even all my Aunt’s are black and white. But the man in the dark suit and the balding head inspecting the crowd is my Great Grandfather.
And then again, accompanying the Beetles as they traverse through the immersive crowd.
Then of course is the photo I have of my avatar, not quite sure what is happening here.
As I said, these are just the ones I found on google, my aunt has the original black and white of him standing outside, as well the original of him shaking hands with The Beetles, that I initially posted.
I will definitely be sure to get the one of him with Jackie Kennedy, that one is my absolute favorite because it was taken before she became First Lady.
Which by the way, the fact my Great Grandfather, who was a made man, had close ties with the Kennedy’s confirms the years long conspiracy that the Kennedy’s were connected with the Mob. They loved coming to the Peppermint so much, that when they got into the White House, they arranged for a Peppermint Lounge sign to be hung in the White House.
More coming soon!!!

These are great but you should post them in the Photo section of the forum.

To be fair, could be because I am just a “Prospect” but I can’t see said section, so I wasn’t aware it exists. I also thought this thread was about information of the Genovese family and their members, which is why I figured it would be appropriate to share my family’s ties with them. It was only just revealed to me two summers ago, I always knew my family was connected but never was sure to what extent til then.
Especially since it seems like this is a little forgotten bit of the good old days. There is very little information about it, and it is such a huge part of mob history because of the political implications and the impact on the music industry.

I’ll only stick to posting information in this thread for now on about my great grandfather. These are all the pictures I can get at the moment anyway, when I get the really cool ones I’ll make a separate thread about it, or post in the Genovese Family thread if there already is one there.
In the meantime I hope others can enjoy these for now too :)

Re: The Genovese Crime Family
Thank you both, much appreciated I definitely will as soon as I can!
In the meantime, here is a little family story, that I’m pretty sure involved the Genovese crime family long before my Great grandfather got involved with them.
Please keep in mind, I heard this story from a second hand source, my father. He was told this story by his father, who had the story told to him by his father (my great grandfather) who this story is about.
A long time ago, in the 1920’s maybe a little earlier. My great great grandfather owned an Italian bakery in NYC (got photos of this too) and would face daily harassment from the local mafia for “protection money” my great great grandfather after having already fled Europe and adversity there refused to bend over for the mob. One day, he is coming home from the shop and realizes his children are missing, and finds a note that says something along the lines of: “for everyday you don’t pay, one of your children die” now this is where it becomes something straight out of a mobster movie!
First day passes, the first child is found dead, drowned from literally being tied to a Ferri in the Hudson.
Second day passes, the second child is found asphyxiated in a bag inside the freezer of a butcher shop.
The third day begins to loom, my great great grandfather decides to finally cave into the Mafia’s demands only having one child left. He meets with the local goon to arrange the payment and the location of his only surviving son. The deed is done, he’s given his son’s location, and finds him rolled up in a rug at the dump. That little boy is my great grandfather who later in left went on to become a gangster himself.
He was probably rolled out of that rug, and thought to himself like he was Henry Hill “For as long as I can remember, I wanted to be a gangster”
p.s sorry if the story is a bit convulated, like I said I’ve heard it from my father, who’s heard it from his father, who heard it from his father. So there could be details im leaving out or that I just simply have forgot. Thank you for reading!

Nice photos.
The book on the Peppermint Lounge/Mob connections seems to have your relative's name wrong, it uses 'Lombardi'.

Re: The Genovese Crime Family
To be fair, the book does have some errors, for example the Peppermint was in NYC not Jersey, I didn’t read the whole book just the highlighted parts about my great grandfather, but the description on the home page for the book for whatever reason says it’s in Jersey.E. Lou Minotti wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 10:53 am Nice photos.

However, as for the name I could just be remembering Lombardo, and my Uncle could have very well said Lombardi, Lombardi feels like it would make more sense too. But wow, this was the first time I have ever seen any reference to him anywhere else besides from my family. That was incredible to read, thank you so much for sharing that.
I wonder if any of the living or current members of the Genovese know about him. I wish I could have met him.
Also just realized: THE MAN IS ON THE COVER OF THE BOOK
Bert actually pm’d me about the book, asking if it was at all accurate. Like i said I only read the description and saw it said the club was in Jersey and like a mung I completely disregarded it, and I’ve came across the book a couple times during my limited research. I feel like an asshole, because if I knew just by clicking the picture of the book I could preview it and I would not only realized sooner my Great Grandfsther is on the fucking cover, but also that he’s mentioned multiple times in the couple pages they allow you to read, can only imagine how many more times they mention him. Amazing, thank you again
Also, just to add, the picture of him on the cover of the book is the only color photo I’ve ever seen of him.

Please note I am not exactly sure where he ranked within the hierarchy, other than the significant role he obviously played in running the Peppermint Lounge for the family in question. I am also not sure the year he passed away, just that obviously the man has passed away lol this would be a massive honor, and I would appreciate it immensely.
As for the book, my Aunt confirmed to me a few hours ago that the book is authentic and that she owns a copy herself. My dad had no idea it existed, and was absolutely dumbfounded to see it. My aunt and I been talking about it, I could maybe have her just send me the photos instead of having to wait til I go there til I can get them, but we’ll see. Sorry it’s taking so long, this is all still relatively new information for me
