Retrial begins for Anthony 'Big Tony' Moscatiello
Retrial for 'Big Tony' in 2001 Florida businessman's killing
Jury selection is beginning for the retrial of a reputed mobster charged in the 2001 slaying of a prominent South Florida businessman who ran a gambling fleet and founded Miami Subs restaurants.
Anthony "Big Tony" Moscatiello is being tried again in the shooting death of Konstantinos "Gus" Boulis, former chief of SunCruz Casinos. Jury selection begins Monday. Moscatiello got a mistrial in 2013 when his attorney became ill. Anthony "Little Tony" Ferrari was convicted and sentenced to life in prison. Prosecutors say the 77-year-old Moscatiello is a member of New York's Gambino crime family who wanted Boulis killed in a power struggle over SunCruz. Moscatiello denies mob ties and pleaded not guilty. He faces the death penalty if convicted.

Witness accused of lying during Boulis murder trial
A witness who testified that Anthony "Big Tony" Moscatiello recruited him to kill a co-defendant in the murder of Miami Subs founder Gus Boulis in 2001 admitted to a fellow jail inmate that he lied on the stand, defense lawyers said in court Thursday. Paul Brandreth testified during Anthony "Little Tony" Ferrari's trial in 2013 and is expected to take the stand again when Anthony Moscatiello, the accused mastermind of the plot to kill Boulis, is tried in June. According to Brandreth, Ferrari wanted co-defendant James "Pudgy" Fiorillo dead because he was talking too much to others about the Boulis murder. Moscatiello's attorney Kenneth Malnik told Broward Circuit Judge Ilona Holmes that he was contacted by a Broward jail inmate who challenged Brandreth's credibility. According to that inmate, Malnik said, Brandreth admitted making up parts of his testimony to coax favors, including a pair of tennis shoes, from prosecutors.

Can't see how he'd make bail on a federal murder charge in aid of racketeering. That's is, tied to OC.
Don't give me your f***ing Manson lamps.

Retrial in Miami Subs founder's murder begins
Anthony "Big Tony" Moscatiello's lawyer wasted little time Monday distancing his client from Anthony "Little Tony" Ferrari, the man convicted in 2013 of murdering Miami Subs founder Gus Boulis..
Ferrari, 58, is serving a life sentence for his role in the Boulis murder, a case that took more than a decade to come to trial and returned to a Broward courtroom Monday. Moscatiello, 77, is accused of being the mastermind of the execution-style slaying, but his lawyer, Kenneth Malnik, told the jurors Ferrari was their guy.
"Ferrari lived to be a gangster," Malnik said, "to be somebody he wasn't."
Malnik's opening statement to the jury struck notes that could have come from prosecutors during Ferrari's trial in October 2013. It was Ferrari, he said, who portrayed himself as a mobster, the so-called nephew of Gambino crime family boss John Gotti.
And it was Ferrari who, in cahoots with Boulis' business rival Adam Kidan, decided with his henchmen to kill Boulis, Malnik said.

Jury deliberates in Anthony 'Big Tony' Moscatiello murder trial
Jurors began deliberating Monday in the retrial of reputed mobster Anthony "Big Tony" Moscatiello, accused of ordering the 2001 killing of a South Florida businessman in a power struggle over a gambling ship fleet.
Moscatiello could get the death penalty if convicted for the shooting death of Konstantinos "Gus" Boulis, former SunCruz Casinos chief and founder of Miami Subs restaurants.
Prosecutors said Moscatiello is a member of New York's Gambino crime family who ordered Boulis killed by a mob hit man.
During closing arguments Monday, prosecutor Gregg Rossman told jurors that Moscatiello ordered the hit on Boulis to protect a stream of income from businessman Adam Kidan, who had purchased the SunCruz Casino boat fleet from Boulis, in what turned out to be a fraudulent deal.
Boulis was trying to regain control of the company, and prosecutors said Moscatiello knew his payments would dry up if Kidan was no longer in charge.
Meanwhile, the defense insisted that Kidan was behind the murder.
A man who admitted to being ordered to dispose of the gun used in the shooting testified during the trial.
James "Pudgy" Fiorillo told the court that he threw the gun off a Miami Beach bridge.
Witnesses said the gunman, John "J.J." Gurino, was later killed in a dispute with a Boca Raton delicatessen owner.
Fiorillo accepted a plea deal with the state, agreeing to testify against Moscatiello and Anthony "Little Tony" Ferrari in exchange for pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit murder. He served 6 1/2 years in prison and has since been released.
Ferrari was found guilty of murder in 2013 and sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Moscatiello did not testify in his own defense. Instead, his lawyers sought to pin the shooting on Ferrari.

They won't give him old squirty for this. While it seems like in Florida they hand out death sentences like they order pizza they reserve death row for the cop killers, rapists, and especially brutal murders. Such as an multiple people getting stabbed to death over a 20 bag of dope. He'll get life.
Re: Retrial begins for Anthony 'Big Tony' Moscatiello
He will get life plus even if he flips FL would never give him a get of jail free card for ratting out some greaseballs in queens NY. At 77 he will die in jail regardless if he flips or not. So at this point there is no reason to flip. Florida doesn't fuck around. Guys get 10yrs for illegal gambling and loan sharking down there(FL) and 1yr in NY with a plea. Florida doesn't hand out sweet heart plea deals. Thats why JR Gotti was terrified of going to trial in FL and the reason he pushed for NY.
