I think there have been 17 different people (now 18 if you believe Mike Franzese) that have come forward and said they either participated in the murder or have direct knowledge of the murder. It seems like all of their stories poke holes in each other’s version of events. Even the people that believe Sheehan was involved don’t think he was the shooter. Some people believe it was entirely a Detroit operation, some people think Tony Pro was involved and that he had Hoffa’s body brought back to NJ as a trophy. I’m sure the government has files somewhere that paint a clearer picture but as more and more of these guys die off the picture is just gonna get muddier and muddier.

O’Brien and Hoffa had a falling out before he died but he wasn’t involved. I think they had started to try and patch things up a little but I’m pretty sure they were still on sour terms when Hoffa disappeared.

It seems Dan Moldea and Scott Bernstein are considered the two journalists that have the most expertise on the subject. They’ve both written about it soberly and thoroughly. They have the same theory....that there is no way Chuckie was involved because he and Hoffa were on such bad terms at the time that the sight of Chuckie would’ve had alarm bells ringing in Hoffa’s ear that something was wrong. Chuckie had been telling people that Hoffa was gonna cut a deal with the Feds. Chuckie’s stepson-Jack Goldstein, who worked in the Bush administration as a lawyer, also supports this theory. They all believe Tony Jack’s brother Vito was the driver and that Chuckie had zero involvement.

Where they disagree is Sheerhan’s involvement. Moldea is certain that Sheerhan helped lure Hoffa in the car and that Sally Buggs was the shooter. Goldstein is less certain Sheerhan was involved. Moldea has basically been saying the same thing since ‘78. He implicated Sheerhan’s involvement back then. Moldea also met with DiNero and told him Sheerhan wasn’t the shooter and he was being conned by the story that he was.
