Peanuts Tronolone was also close to Johnny Simone of the DeCavalcantes. Simone tried to get Tronolone's help in saving his life, but word had been sent out to Cleveland that if Simone approached them, they should kill him. I believe what ended up happening was Tronolone convinced Simone to return to NJ/NY where he was ultimately killed.

Thanks for the info JCB.

So the last remaining members are Joseph "Joe Loose" Iacobacci, Russell Papalardo, Ronald "Ronnie the Crab" Carabbia and Eugene "The Animal" Ciausullo.

Was Nick Nardi ever made? I believe some agency listed him as a made member but I don't believe the Feds ever had him as such.

So we're writing off William Dileno, Ronald Lucarelli Jr, John Oliverio, and Anthony Velotta as members?

Peanuts was especially close to Tony Salerno, lifelong friends. If Cleveland wanted something, Peanuts made a call to Salerno and it was done.

Yes, he was Tony Milano's nephew. People don't understand the Pittsburgh/Youngstown/Cleveland and greater metro areas that it had the largest Calabrian emigration in the early 1900s due to the steel, auto, manufacturing, mining and railroad industry. Italians that came from Calabria were mostly laborers and in the 1920s, the Calabrians had their own organization and most of them came up under the old-time black handers and they were feared as well as respected. The Milano Brothers in Cleveland, the Mallamo's, Prato's, Barbaro's and Romeo's in Youngstown, the Bazzano's and Ripepi's in Pittsburgh and the Tripodi's and Quattrone's in Steubenville, OH had a strong organization. They were part of their respected crime families, but also operated separately from the Sicilians. And NOBODY fucked with them. Tony & Frank Milano were two of the most powerful racketeers of their time in those days, Cleveland was respected nationwide and had tentacles in every mob city across the US. Fast forward to when Tony Milano was in really bad shape after he retired in 1976, that's when Licavoli took out Nardi. Licavoli never should have been boss and John Scalish would never have named him his successor as Maishe Rockman, Scalish's brother in law said. Lonardo should have been boss (as Scalish's other brother in law) but Lonardo and Rockman despised one another as Lonardo would never share any information with Rockman because he was a Jew. Rockman knew that Licavoli was a street guy and not sophisticated in white collar crime and figured he'd be Licavoli's puppet master. And it backfired on him. When Licavoli was made boss, he didn't even know he needed to go to NY to introduce himself to Salerno. Lonardo had to instruct him.

Yes. Like I stated earlier, two of Cleveland's top FBI agents said that by 1992 after Tronolone's death, the family was over. Joe Loose proclaimed to be boss and the media labeled him a boss because he was one of the last made guys on the street under Licavoli..along with Papalardo. That was the last making ceremony confirmed by members (Angelo Lonardo) and the Feds. Nobody in the country viewed Joe Loose as a boss, how he could he make anybody? And in 1992, NY still had final say over Cleveland...granted, the landscape of OC changed dramatically then, but Chin would have still had to have okayed it and he was firmly in charge in the early 1990's.

Great stuff JCB. How many made members were left by the time Scalish died? The family seemed pretty decimated by then.

Here is what I have for the made members in 1976.

James “Jack White” Licavoli
Anthony "The Old Man" Milano
Angelo Lonardo
Callagiro “Leo Lips” Moceri
Anthony “Tony Dope” DelSanter
John “Peanuts” Tronolone
Frank Embrescia
Charles “Charlie” Carisi
Ralph Carpinelli
Anthony Panzarella
Joseph Pieri
Stefano Randazzo
Dominic Suspirato
Sam DeLa??? (Do you know his full surname?)

So at least 14 made members. Was Nick Nardi made during this time?

Were any of these guy's members?

Dominick “Dom” Lonardo
Salvatore "Sam Pap" Papalardo
Dominic Caputo
John Felice
Joseph Morello

Thanks again.

Thanks for the info.

Weren't Sinito and Gallo made in 1979? Also I thought John Nardi was never made and was bitter about it and that was one of the reasons he sided with Greene.

By 1974, Sinito was running Angelo Lonardo's crew and Gallo was one of the biggest moneymakers of the family. According to my records, they were some of the last guys made by Scalish before he died.

These two guys are very interesting, Vincenzo Tripodi and Cosmo Quattrone. Both of these guys are mentioned in every Dean Martin book because Dino was a dealer in all of their casinos in Steubenville, OH. Tripodi and Quattrone were related through marriage and came from the same village in Reggio Calabria. They were connected all over the country with cousins in Philly and NYC. Even to this day, the Tripodi's and Quattrone's still live in Steubenville, OH. Here is a quote from a book about Tripodi:

From Dino: Living High in the Dirty Business of Dreams, by Nick Tosches:

The padrone of Steubenville, the man who oversaw it all, the one to whom the Irish and the Jews and the rest paid tribute, was JamesVincent Tripodi, whom no one ever described as a gentleman. Botn in Italy in December 1899, Vincenzo Tripodi had established himself early and violently as the demon lover of the Democratic bosses, as the evilest dark breeze in that lush and fruitful garden. He lived at 638 Broadway with his wife. They called her Mae or Mabel, but her name was Amelia. She too had come from the other side, and was a girl of eighteen with Tripodi married her in 1926. There were semi-legitimate businesses: the J.V. Tripodi Restaurant on North Sixth Street, the beer distributorship that had grown out of a Prohibition monopoly. But Tripodi’s sub-rosa interests were everywhere his will decided them to be. He knew others of his kind, men in Cleveland, Detroit, New York. They would come to his daughter’s wedding and embrace him. But he neither sought nor cultivated their company, desiring no such shadow other than his own in the garden he held as his sacrosanct domain. He would end it many years later as he had begun it, with his hands and his will, blowing out his brains with a thirty-eight, alone in his garage, on a wintry afternoon in December, 1987, eleven days before his eighty-eighth birthday.

Tripodi was the first of many such characters whom Dino would encounter in his life: men — America called them the Mafia — who sought to wet their beaks (fari vagnari u pizzu, as the Sicilians said) in the lifeblood of every man’s good fortune. He shared many traits with these men, traits born of the old ways: the taciturn harboring close to the heart of any thought or feeling that ran too deeply; that emotinoal distance, that wall of lontananza between the self and the world; a natural, unarticulated belief in the supreme inviolability of the old ways themselves; a devout sense of Catholicism, based upon the power of its rituals and predicated on God’s special forgiveness for the sins of those whose faith was founded in the ancient, sacred grain of the old ways’ moralita. He shared these traits with them, but he did not share his money with them; and the more he came to know them — and he came to know them as few would — the more he hated them for the predators they were, and the more intent he became on beating them at their own racket. It was not a matter of bravado. He did not share that trait with them. It was a matter, rather, of menefreghismo. Deep down, that, as much as anything, was what he was, a menefreghista — one who simply did not give a fuck.

That's a pretty sizeable family with 40 members in 1976. I guess many would be old but still it's not small.

Were Gallo and Sinito doing trafficking in the time of Scalish? Did Calogero Moceri oppose drug trafficking? It seems a little bit convenient that the family starts heavily in drug trafficking about the same time the underboss is murdered with convenient a scapegoats to take the blame. Maybe just my dirty mind at work.

I didn't think Scalish made any guy's for most if not all of his reign? According to Fratiano the family hadn't made anyone in such a long time that they had forgotten how to do the ceremony (told to him by Tony Delsanter). According to Lonardo Sinito and Gallo weren't made until 1979 or 1980.
