Saputo Cheese Ltd and the Bonnano Family in Montreal
Here is a short document to be aired tonight on ICI Radio-Canada that tells the story of Giuseppe Saputo, founder of Saputo Cheese Ltd in Montreal. This cheese factory was indeed largely infiltrated by the Bonanno Family in 1964.
Giuseppe's son, Lino, has recently released his autobiography in which he denies any links with the Bonanno Mob.

Quebec dairy mogul Lino Saputo had secret past dealings with U.S. mobster Joe Bonanno, then lied about it

Thanks for sharing. If anyone in Montreal listens to this, I'd be curious to know their thoughts.
Here was a thread some time ago on Giuseppe Saputo:

I personally suspect he may have been a mafia member, much like his close friend, paesan, fellow cheeseman, and mafioso Giovanni DiBella.

Very good article! I knew the history of Bonanno's garbage cans in Arizona but I never knew the content collected by the cops. In your opinion, is it possible that Lino & Giuseppe Morsellino were also members or just business partners for Joe?

I would think they were just business partners.

Anyone familiar with Joe Bonanno's "specific influence...throughout" Latin America? Either I'm drawing a blank or I haven't heard of this."We learned, by both studying him and watching him, that he was the most powerful Mafioso in the United States ... and had specific influence, we learned, in Canada and throughout Latin America," said Eugene Ehmann, a former state police investigator who played a leading role in the operation against Bonanno.

I'd figure through the Cuntreras and Rizzuto. And ofcourse Badalamenti and Galante organized the pizza connection.B. wrote:Anyone familiar with Joe Bonanno's "specific influence...throughout" Latin America? Joe Bonanno had some sort of gambling operation in Haiti, during the rule of Papa Doc Duvalier and I belive he stayed there for some time in the mid 60s.
Supposedly Joe Zicarelli was friendly with the leaders of both the Dominican Republic and Venezuela during the time Bonanno was boss. Zicarelli had gambling consessions in the Dominican Republic and was supposedly involved in an arms deal in Venezuela during the late 50s.

In fact, it was Vito DeFilippo, then a caporegime, who was in charge of the operations.Eld wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2020 7:24 pm Joe Bonanno had some sort of gambling operation in Haiti, during the rule of Papa Doc Duvalier and I belive he stayed there for some time in the mid 60s.

It seems that Paul Volpe for Buffalo was also involved in Casino operations over thereLaurentian wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 4:29 amIn fact, it was Vito DeFilippo, then a caporegime, who was in charge of the operations.Eld wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2020 7:24 pm Joe Bonanno had some sort of gambling operation in Haiti, during the rule of Papa Doc Duvalier and I belive he stayed there for some time in the mid 60s.

If I'm not mistaken Bill Bonsnno mentioned the Hatian interests in his first book.
Reminds me of the story Heny Hill told about buying a slave from Haiti and then having to send it back becsuse it was so big and ugly it scared his children.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.
Re: Saputo Cheese Ltd and the Bonnano Family in Montreal
He was involved in them with DeFilippo actually. DeFilippo became the liaison to Canada for the Bonanno family after Carmine Galante was deported and incarcerated. What's interesting about that is DeFilippo not only visited Montreal but also Toronto, where he became close to Volpe and had those international interests with him. So we have DeFilippo representing Bonanno's interests in both Haiti and Canada, with intersection between them.motorfab wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 9:56 amIt seems that Paul Volpe for Buffalo was also involved in Casino operations over thereLaurentian wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 4:29 amIn fact, it was Vito DeFilippo, then a caporegime, who was in charge of the operations.Eld wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2020 7:24 pm Joe Bonanno had some sort of gambling operation in Haiti, during the rule of Papa Doc Duvalier and I belive he stayed there for some time in the mid 60s.

I knew about DeFilippo's Haitian casino interests, which were similar to what a lot of mafia figures had going on in Cuba and the Dominican Republic in that era, but it slipped my mind. Of course he was representing Joe Bonanno. Thanks for the reminder, in addition to the bit about Zicarelli, who was another Galante crew member.
