Flushing, you’re correct too! .....Flushing, Whitestone, Beechurst, Malba, College Pt., Bayside, even Little Neck had tons of guys, and their families living there for many decades. Still do! ...... many migrated to east Queens from Corona, Jackson Heights, Astoria etc.... to those areas which were looked upon as “moving up”!Flushing wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2019 9:05 ambert wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2019 8:18 amThe ones there did not grow up there, they moved there after they had money to get out of their old areas. I mean if 1930's Mulberry is the comparison, then I wouldnt have stopped at 2000. Carmine Sessa and Anthony Casso's men both traveled here on their respective wars to eliminate undesirables.
I mean, the bocci courts in Bayside and Whitestone are the last few places in NYC where you can legitemately here the italian language being spoken. And they are numerous. Near Francis Lewis Park, the fire hydrants are painted in the color of the italian flag.
Then there is demographics:

A lot has been discussed about Massapequa, Franklin Square. I agree with those claims and they are surely mob centered areas. But I dont see how any legitimate view of northeast Queens says that it is not a mob frequented area.

I’m certain that all five crews were probably represented but I know through personal knowledge that the Lucchese, Genovese, Gambino and to a smaller extent the Profaci/Colombo crews all had multiple guys there.

The Bonanno I don’t have personal knowledge but I’m sure there were at least one or two also.

And for guys who were willing to drive a bit further, many started the migration to Nassau County by the late 1950’s and early 1960’s too

Key also: many East Harlem and Bronx guys moved “over the bridge” to the Whitestone-Malba area.

Let's bot forget John Ritter, the late comedian from 3's company. He was on the malba waterfront. Also Rudolph Valentino.
As for mob stuff, I wasmostly referring to the locals who occupy the standard Queens housing stock - row homes like I grew up in.
Just FYI, The city is dumping a massive homeless shelter on 20th avenue near College Point/Malba. College Point us now a candidate for a new Rikers Island tower. Bad days coming...

Re: THE MOST MOBBED-UP NEIGHBORHOODS?
You guys are mixing Italians moving to the suburbs or a suburban like area to it meaning it's now a mafia neighborhood. Federici's son was busted and lives there, but was he doing it with the mob, or was he trying on his own to be a gangster? Either way, I hope he smartened up. I know that there is very little mob stuff there especially considering the size and population of the areas. Plus there is no street that is all mob, like a mobbed up area would have. It's a few guys scattered over a large area, and some of the names from those arrests who are called associates I wonder if the Mafia even knows who the hell they are.
Re: THE MOST MOBBED-UP NEIGHBORHOODS?
No reason to get upset. People will see what's been posted and make up their own minds. You'll always have your memories of Bath Beach, or wherever the hell your from.bert wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2019 7:21 pm You guys are mixing Italians moving to the suburbs or a suburban like area to it meaning it's now a mafia neighborhood. I posted about Federici's son and his cocaine conspiracy arrest in 2008. I left a link, as I often do, but here it is again: https://qns.com/story/2008/02/14/parksi ... -drug-rap/
Based on empirical evidence, it's obviously a mob area. But compared to Pleasant Ave, it isn't. But if that's the bar your setting, nothing is. I'm surprised you didnt lay out the ground rules for "mob neighborhood" earlier in the thread.
I try to not be that guy who speaks subjectively in a condescending tone in lieu of empirical data. Or atleast properly establishing what a mob neighborhood actually is. So I left out the Gambino capo's grandkid who got whacked on meth and shot his friend 4 times in Whitestone, after having shot someone else at the Flushing motel. I didn't think it was appropriate, but I'll plop it down right here: https://qns.com/story/2014/09/10/former ... lba-jetty/
I also left out the movie "Cruise" with Emily Radjakowski, based on the Italian Americans in Bayside and their drag racing events on Francis Lewis Boulevard during 1980's.

Re: THE MOST MOBBED-UP NEIGHBORHOODS?
I suggested the theme for this post and I can tell you now that I didn’t mean to only conclude Mulberry St or Pleasant Ave to be the only mobbed up areas. Those are a given!
-
I was precisely thinking of other area like residential neighborhoods that are either “bedroom” communities for the mob or “active” areas where they operate, or both!!
-
And in this context Flushing, Bayside, Malba-Whitestone (especially), Astoria, etc., all very much fit the criteria.
-
For that matter, so do Atlantic Beach, Long Beach and Massapequa our on LI.
-
And whether it was years ago like JH (1950-60) or more current day (1990-2000) like Massapequa and Malba ...... all fall into the category I think ...... its just a matter of who is the MOST MOBBED UP AREAS!!
-
That’s the debate I think!

Re: THE MOST MOBBED-UP NEIGHBORHOODS?
BELOW IS THE REPOST OF MY QUESTION: ......it’s self explanatory! And lays out the criteria parameters .....
Aside from East Harlem uptown and Little Italy downtown which are a given, “pick two” towns in each of the various boroughs; for Queens, Brooklyn, The Bronx, Staten Island..... and also on Long Island (Nassau & Suffolk), in Connecticut and New Jersey which in your opinion were/or are the most “Mobbed-Up”? ...... having the heaviest concentration of hoodlums and mafiosi per square block in the tristate area?
-
And for that matter, relative to Harlem - which particular “block” had the heaviest population of made guys and their families?
-
For yesteryear.... the 1940-50’s, and today in modern times 2019!
-
Interesting question no fella’s?

I’m guessing Brooklyn today would be Bensonhurst and Dyker Heights. Staten Island would be Tottenville and...? Queens would be, without a doubt, Howard Beach and Ozone?maxiestern11 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2019 12:43 am BELOW IS THE REPOST OF MY QUESTION: ......it’s self explanatory! Re: THE MOST MOBBED-UP NEIGHBORHOODS?
Gohn, I agree. ......in more modern times, for Queens: Howard Beach/Ozone Pk probably has the heaviest concentration of guys, followed by “residual” leftovers from years ago in Whitestone/Malba, Beechurst.
-
JH, Astoria, Corona, etc was 40-50 years ago. today those areas are no more for Italians and mob guys!.... Corona still has a very small contingent by Spaghetti Park but that’s really it.
———-
Brooklyn: I’d say Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst still today! Also Ridgewood -(both Bklyn & Qns sides with the Zips).
-
Years ago those areas also, but you also had Coney Island, Greenpoint/Williamsburg, E New York, etc etc
-
Bronx: what’s left today I think is in the Arthur Ave area, Morris Pk and Country Club mostly...... pretty heavy concentration still.
-
Years ago you had Yonkers, Mt. Vernon, all Tremont, many other areas.
-
NYC: Downtown 4th Ward you still have some guys (hanging and living there too), Little Italy a handful still live there but guys do come into the neighborhood to still do business. Westside by the Village also has a presence.
-
Uptown Harlem if there’s a few stragglers it’s a lot. A few fellows may come into the area for business but it’s limited. I’d imagine any action would be along Pleasant Ave itself today. ........
-
Harlem, as far as decades ago which “street” was the strongest lol, that’s a tough cause every street had so many guys! I guess to answer my own questions it’d have to be either E.116th St., E. 109th St or E. 107th St - where Ormento and the old Lucchese 107th mob got started! (116th was very heavy Genovese presence).
-
NJ: of course Newark - Down Neck section, Linden and Elizabeth big time, Fort Lee too!
-
CT: ? New Haven, Waterbury,...... I’m not so familiar with CT or NJ

Fort Lee?!?!- ur kidding me right- its 100% Korean most of the store signs are even in Korean. You have no idea what you're talking about.
Down Neck- Is now all Brazilian, Portugese, and Spanish Yes, you do have old Down Neck guys who live out in the burbs now like East Hanover/Florham Park/Caldwell etc coming in to do business. No Italians live in the Ironbound anymore though, the small Italian population still left in Newark is in the North Ward by the Belleville border (Bloomfield Ave).
Elizabeth-DeCavalcante guys and its all concentrated in the Peterstown section.
Linden- There's a few guys there, DeCav guys. Linden has a lot of Polish people, huge Polish population.

Re: THE MOST MOBBED-UP NEIGHBORHOODS?
I wasn't upset Flushing, but you disappointed the hell out of me by mentioning that movie Cruise, the worst representation of Italians in that area I ever saw. I hung out there in that time, it was nothing like that. A guy form the area wanted to cash in on the mob theme and stereotype of Italians, so he took drag racing and combined it with he mob to say it was his life story.Flushing wrote: ↑Sun Sep 15, 2019 10:39 pmNo reason to get upset. The Gambino grandson was Sasso, he was the Grandson of an associate. What does him being a crack head have to do with it being a mafia area? His grandfather was no longer active, his father was dead (his father was not an associate or member) and he was drug addict. That doe not make it a mafia area, because it plain isn't one.

As far as NJ, (if I didn’t clearly qualify my statement) I’m referring to years ago! Today, I have no idea. I’m not from those areas! But Fort Lee was a big area decades back.
