Then a few years later Capeci recanted that Crea wasn't the boss, and your response was that it was "common knowledge and no surprise that Amuso was still in charge." You can't have it both ways. It's either "common knowledge" or fantasy. Well from the info that came out of that Philly indictment, it sounds like the Luccheses were still recognizing Scarfo as the boss which is one reason why Ligambi was beefing to NY about them. That might have been one way they justified making a Philly associate who was never officially released to them.
By all accounts Merlino is the boss. I just found it un-bosslike that in the first year of his release he was looking to publicize his story. That's still odd to me.
Here's my approach to this: I don't know the man. And that may sound like a cop out but really it's not. I've read books and articles involving him which formed the opinions I and anyone else here has. To start thinking for the man- or anyone else- that you have some insight into their minds or what they intend to do is foolish to me. If it comes out he's the boss I'll say Ok. If it comes out he wasn't I'll say "I suspected he wasn't." Until then, what his status is doesn't keep me up at night and I can't "speculate" my way to the truth.
In my dealings with OC history, I'd go fucking nuts if I was looking for 100%s. There's some events and people I feel have locked 90%, others at only 5% in terms of their importance and whatever else. I look to verify or I wait, I don't speculate as it leads to fuck ups. But that's just me, I'm not looking to create a Soprano episode inside my own head.
