Casso was a capo. Corallo offered Casso the big chair but Casso turned it down and took consig instead. Or UB. I can't remember.
This doesn't jive with with the official info. I'm guessing this comes from that Carlo book about Casso. I would take that with a grain of salt since Carlo is notoriously full of it, often making many erros or out right fabricating things. It is also hard to tell what Casso actually told him (whose credibility itself is shaky, remember the Feds took his deal away because they cought him in too many lies) and what Carlo says he did.
According to the Lucchese informants the Consiglieri position was vacant from 1986 until about 1996 (Crea briefly served as Acting Consiglieri in 1991 and then Frank Lastorino as Acting from 1991-1994). Mariano "Mac" Macaluso was the UnderBoss from 1986-1989.

1988 Senate Subcommittee Hearings had Macaluso as Acting Underboss and Acting Consigliere. To confuse things further, Amuso is referred to as the "Interim Boss" while Casso is listed as "Street Boss".

If there is a topic like the one in this thread. Who is going to run the Luchese Family on the street...who is the street boss? Madonna is going away... Its a topic where you have to just use your opinion because there is no current Gangland or Indictment to give you that info.
