Re: The Irishman is full of shit
Overall, I don't see this movie having any different effect on the public's understanding of the mafia/LCN/whatever, than the millionth A&E special about murder inc, or a book saying how Joey Gallo and Persico killed Anastasia with the "barbershop quartet"(god, if I hadn't rented it from the library I would have thrown the copy of 'The Mad Ones' out my window). The public largely doesn't care about the mafia, and will forget more wrong information than they will ever remember.

"Denzel Washington refers to the White guy as "Another mayonnaise man is a pinstriped suit. In the Black community mayonnaise face is a slur of White people "
If blacks do use this as a slur, it's pretty ignorant, because mayo face was an ethnic slur used by southern Italians to refer to northern Italians and northern, western and central Europeans. Well, they're not known to be linguistic experts.

But then they will start to refer to this scene [emoji2]UTC wrote:"Denzel Washington refers to the White guy as "Another mayonnaise man is a pinstriped suit. In the Black community mayonnaise face is a slur of White people "

Glick told author Nicholas Pileggi that he expected to meet a banker-type individual, but instead, he found Alvin Baron to be a gruff, tough-talking cigar-chomping Teamster who greeted him with, “What the fuck do you want?”

I meant regardless of race, that sounds like something a child would say, and doesnt warrant any kind of serious response.bert wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2019 7:58 pmWho else besides humans do you hear speaking?CabriniGreen wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2019 6:25 am For the record, I've never heard a HUMAN say Mayonaise face in real life.......

If that was really in the movie that's some TERRIBLE writing.
It's like 2 toddlers at the sandbox, with power ranger lunchboxes. They eat a sandwich, a kid get mayo on his jaw,.." Mayonnaise Face!!!!"... like..... REALLY? LOL

Re: The Irishman is full of shit
"Mayo Face" has been used occasionally by some black people referring to a White person. The only difference is that it is not used very often and most all White people could care less about it. Only a weak person with low self esteem would care about a "Word". The most recent example would be that idiot from CNN "Fredo" Cuomo. His violent reaction was all everybody needed to know about his self esteem and weak character.CabriniGreen wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2019 6:25 am For the record, I've never heard a HUMAN say Mayonaise face in real life.......

You could start a thread about a photo of a daisy, and Pogo and Confederate would somehow turn it into a discussion about people of color attacking pure whites and their heritage.

Re: The Irishman is full of shit
This is the second time I've had to get this thread back on topic. The third time I have to it's getting shit-canned.

I disagree. People from that area that grew up always hearing whispers about Bufalino and “The Pittston Mafia” it will affect a lot. When The Quiet Don came out you couldn’t go into a coffee shop, pizza parlor or grocery store in NEPA without someone talking about the book or the book on display somewhere.thekiduknow wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2019 10:16 pm Overall, I don't see this movie having any different effect on the public's understanding of the mafia/LCN/whatever, than the millionth A&E special about murder inc, or a book saying how Joey Gallo and Persico killed Anastasia with the "barbershop quartet"(god, if I hadn't rented it from the library I would have thrown the copy of 'The Mad Ones' out my window). For those of us who grew up around and in families connected to the Bufalino family it’s almost as if the book and the fact that MARTIN FUCKING SCORCESE decided to make a movie based on the book is like a badge of honor. Growing up and dealing with NYC and Jersey guys you had to have some thick skin because Pa was always treated differently. Like we were some no good rejects pretending to be earner’s, pretending to be somebody. This book and movie (regardless of whether or not Sheeran did kill Hoffa) is like a big fuck you to NYC and others. At least from my point of view and others from the area that may have seen the inside of a jail cell or two.
