also in the early 2000s, Bobby Manna (a soldier) served as an unofficial counselor in some capacity to some of the higher ranking guys, while imprisoned. You can equate him to Gene Gotti's role around the same time. Only difference is the Genovese guys used lawyers and others to communicate with him.

Although only a soldier and not of the "Westside Crew," I think his role is important to note. So, on my 2002 chart I have him as listed as a soldier serving as a "counselor emeritus" of sorts.
I don’t know of anybody that’s classified Bobby as just a soldier since the 70s. He’s been a captain or higher since probably 81. In Fairton he outranked all the captains from the other 4 families as well. He’s been in prison 30 years and he probably outearns 90% of the soldiers on the street today.
The Ardito affidavit from 2002 labels Manna as a soldier during that time.

I ate dinner with him, Patsy Parello’s nephew and Desciscio every night for over 3 years. Most days Ritchie cooked in the microwave all day and the 3 of us ate in the cell sitting in grey boxes turned into a makeshift table. Trust me when I tell you, there is NOBODY who’s high up in that life that thinks of Bobby as a soldier. When Prisci got the shit kicked out of him by Johnny Joe and others Bobby got put in solitary for NO REASON. When they let the mooks out for Ramadan during a lockdown but kept us locked up for Ash Wednesday and Christmas due to a hunger strike it was Bobby they went to and tried to negotiate a settlement.

As far as him out earning 90% of the guys on the street, it’s a well known fact he had big rackets still going for a long time after he got inducted. Also, I worked in commissary and the CO’s used to joke that Bobby has so much money on his books that the FBOP stopped accepting deposits to his account for a few years.

Being rich and incarcerated for life must suck balls. What’s the most luxurious thing a guy like Manna can do with all that money?

He can give money to relatives.

Kind of like Chin in a way , I don’t think that Chin had a cash dollar in his pocket for 25 years. God only knows what Chin’s net worth was ! Yet his immediate family members are all flush and set up for life with legit jobs and business.

I can't remember where I read it but a Genovese soldier waa telling Chin about some new scam that had the potential to make $1 million. Chin's response was, "You talk like that's a lot of money."

Allegedly Chin made over 100 million dollars during his time, so I guess that's not too bad for a guy who never demanded a big percent from his capos.

That $100 million million figure was supposedly an annual take for the crime family. Like most figures related to organized crime, take with a grain of salt. They vary widely and are often contradictory in one way or another.

Yeah, seems like guess work. The 100 mil figure has been floated several times. I've seen it for the family's annual income in the 90's, for Chin's actual net worth around the time of his 1 million bond, Catena's net worth at the time of his retirement and so on.
