The mob busts we follow here are similar. Where they differ is the scope of the links I put up like Mexicans and groups in China working together, or the ones where they have operations across several states. Why do you skip those? AS for the Chinese selling drugs, it is big, they are working with Mexican groups, who are overwhelmingly bigger in the US than anyone.gohnjotti wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2019 9:44 pmEspecially the link about a drugs & card game bust from a small Chinese gang that operated in a predominantly Chinese area in Brooklyn. What especially proved Wiseguy wrong was the fact that these Chinese criminals were selling, of all things, drugs! The mafia is certainly doomed now. And don’t get me started on their poker game that they operated out of ONE apartment. How can the Mafia compete with such criminal prowess???bert wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2019 6:39 pmYou can't admit I nailed you with all that info.Wiseguy wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2019 2:38 pmStill waiting for you to post one single solitary link that actually has to do with what we're talking about. You keep posting stuff that's beside the point and then act like you've proven your case. Several posters have told you this. But you're just off in your own little world.
I realize you're a lost cause at this point. In the future, just don't talk out of your ass, bert. Then there will be no problem.![]()

But we're not talking about other states, are we? At least we weren't when this disagreement started. We're talking about the extended New York metropolitan area. But you then had to go and confuse the issue as a way to weasel your way out of an argument you knew you had already lost.bert wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2019 10:15 pmThe mob busts we follow here are similar. All roads lead to New York.
Re: “The mafia is dead”
New York is more Hispanic than those states, and the gangs here more plentiful and powerful, so you just made my points stronger. As for being confused, it's your brain.Wiseguy wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2019 10:22 pmBut we're not talking about other states, are we? At least we weren't when this disagreement started. Most younger people don't know or care about the LCN. They're more aware of Drug Cartels from Mexico or street level "ghetto gangstas" standing on the corner selling drugs or some "gangsta rapper" they see on television. To them, Organized Crime is all related to the drug culture IMO.Wiseguy wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2019 8:49 pm The vast majority of the public doesn't follow the mob beyond reading the ocassional article, if not just the headline. Their frame of reference for the mob is Al Capone, maybe John Gotti, movies like The Godfather or Goodfellas, and The Sopranos. Their image of "The Mafia" is guys in suits and fedoras with Tommy guns.
They had never heard of Frank Cali before he was shot. They couldn't pick Barney Bellomo out of a three man lineup unless the other two were Eddie Murphy and Carrot Top.
Defense lawyers will say whatever they need to in order to get a client off the hook. Documentaries talking about the mob "being dead" or books entitled "The Last (fill in the blank)" do it for dramatic purposes.
When some more in the know say the mob is dead, it seems they mean in the sense of what it once was, i.e a more secretive, disciplined, Omerta-following, tight knit criminal organization at the height of its power.
The Mob is dead in most places. To say it's "still pretty active in the US" is somewhat misleading. It's still pretty active in the extended New York metropolitan area. And there is still some activity in a handful of other areas. But that's about it.

Re: “The mafia is dead”
The real reason why the vast majority of people don’t follow/care about the mob is since they wouldn’t find it interesting. The mob doesn’t have characters like they used to have. There’s barely any high profile killings like there once was. Today, people tend to follow street gangs or drug cartels since they’re more violent and tend to capture headlines. Imo, the mob today is still fascinating. The way they organize themselves and how they tend to evolve is one of a kind. I also follow some modern street gangs, but not as much as the mob.

the same in europe where the gangsta rap subculture was imported from american ghettos, the vast majority of poor suburbs in western europe (except southern italy and a few other areas) are multietnichConfederate wrote: ↑Sat Jun 15, 2019 1:58 pm Most younger people don't know or care about the LCN. I agree with all of the above comments, but you still don't have to look far for wannabe Italian-American hoodlums quoting 'The Godfather' and 'Goodfellas' and all that. It's all over Facebook, someone will slap a quote about not snitching with Don Corleone's face in the background.
Also, we shouldn't discount that African-American "ghetto" culture continues to idolize the Mafia, John Gotti, etc. Case in point;
