I admit I don't know a lot about Pittsburgh, but some names and people interest me. I know Junior Williams from that horrible A&E show, isn't his real last name something different? How about some of those others names on that list, Hankish and Porter? Are those Italian names? If not, what is up with so many changing names?
Is there anything to read up on Chucky Porter? Seems interesting his story about going from Underboss to helping the gov't.

Most of these guys were high ranking associates. Porter's mother was a Gialanella. Here are a few articles:

Junior Williams and his brother Salvatore were high ranking associates, large numbers lottery and sports gambling. The Williams brothers grew up with Mike Genovese, they were full blooded Italian with their surname being Guglielmo (Williams in English). They ran the Hill District (the black section of town).

Re: Pittsburgh Illegal Gambling via 2006
This thread is a continuation from the PDF files I posted in the FBI file section under the same title. Here is what I have on Charles "Chucky" Porter.
Chucky was a money making machine and by the mid 1980's, his main source of income became narcotics. He worked for years developing sources in NY, Miami & Chicago and was respected nationwide. Chucky was a charismatic personality and very polite with the Feds, far from the reputation he earned as a stone face killer. Porter, the underboss of the Pittsburgh LCN and Louis Raucci, a member, were indicted in April in the Western District of Pennsylvania on charges including the distribution of narcotics, extortion, conspiracy to commit murder, robbery, gambling, and racketeering (i.e.,of directing a network of drug dealers and racketeers and of reporting directly to LCN boss Michael Genovese). The subsequent trial (during September-October) revealed the extensive involvement of Porter and high-ranking member Raucci in narcotics trafficking as well as the wide range of criminal enterprises from which the Family claimed "tribute." Charles "Chucky" Porter was considered the "right hand" of LCN boss Michael Genovese and was viewed as the driving force behind the Family's more aggressive stance and its expanding role in cocaine trafficking and shaking down illegal operatives in the Pittsburgh area. Porter's close association with LaRocca enabled him to develop useful connections in New York, Chicago and Florida. Porter has worked closely with several Family members, including Louis Raucci and Henry Zottola, as well as a number of associates. These included Geno Chiarelli, Anthony Durish, Ramon Sosa, Robert Liscio, Eugene Gesuale, John Leone, Joseph Rosa, Joseph Bertone, and Primo Mollica. Before Genovese became Boss of the Family, Porter was trafficking in drugs without Boss Sebastian John LaRocca's awareness.

Adolpho "Junior" Williams was a force in Pittsburgh. He and his brothers Salvatore and Eugene grew up with Mike Genovese. The Williams brothers along with Bobby Iannelli took over and divided the $30 million dollars a year numbers lottery from legendary "independent" gambling boss Anthony "Tony" Grosso. The Williams family ate, slept and breathed gambling as his sisters were also taking bets. His mother was born in Italy so he was half Italian.

John, like most of the "Old Timers", knew more than he he led others to believe. Maybe another reason why he preferred Jo Jo to be his successor? John had no choice other than to name Michael to succeed him after Joe was incarcerated. Michael's #1 priority was always MONEY!JCB1977 wrote:This thread is a continuation from the PDF files I posted in the FBI file section under the same title. Re: Pittsburgh Illegal Gambling via 2006
By the mid 1970's, LaRocca was spending most of his time in Pompano Beach, FL with Joe Regino and Joe Sonken. Mike and Jo Jo were acting bosses while LaRocca was in Florida and Big John hated coming home while it was cold. Michael went the drug route, Jo Jo stayed on par with gambling. Chucky was very well liked by Big John but Michael also saw Chucky had a crew that could make serious money in narcotics. With Eugene Gesuale and Paul Mazzei, they were the "Pittsburgh connection" for Henry Hill in NY and were also part of the Boston College point shaving scandal

I met Chuckie in 1976. I was told then that he was an "Up and Comer". So maybe, and I say "maybe", sometime in the late 70's.
However, JCB may know for sure.

My memory is a little fuzzy but I believe he was made after Mike Genovese became Boss. So around 1984.

That would make good sense, unless he was made by John. Hopefully JCB has the answer.

Always wanted to know more about them. Despite being a PA family, they always seemed more midwest, what with the Ohio connection and all.
Are there any good books about them that go into detail about the organization itself (i.e. not just the usual rackets and hype stories)?
