Mafia recruits
How are Mafiosos recruited nowadays? Are their still young ‘farm teams’.Lastly, where on the East Coast does most recruiting seem to happen?

Re: Mafia recruits
It all depends some are seeked out meaning noticed by members of organized crime others just get involved through the people they know. Majority of the wiseguys especially back in the early days all had roots in the mob meaning somebody within there blood family was involved such as a Grandfather, Father, Uncle, Brother, Cousin etc. but the Italian Mob mainly recruits in Italian Neighborhoods back then they did when the Neighborhoods were all Italian in nowadays you got Chinese, Jewish, Russian, Polish, Mexican, Hipsters, Liberals, Gays etc back then it was A different era Italians grew up strict and old school today that tradition is gone
Re: Mafia recruits
Looking at recent inductions, it appears that the modern Mafia is doing a lot more recruiting from within blood families. That could perhaps be because of the slow demise of neighborhood farm teams, as you mentioned, and the lack of young, aspiring hoodlums hanging around Mafia figures.
There are still active crews of young associates, however, mostly active in the stronghold areas of Queens (Howard Beach, Ozone Park), Brooklyn (Bensonhurst, Dyker Heights), and Staten Island. Notable examples I can think of are Ronnie Giallanzo's young Howard Beach crew, which include the slew of young, violent associates/soldiers indicted in 2017. Another example is the younger guys that hung around the new Wimpy Boys - i.e., Ilario Sessa, Joseph Savarese, Tommy McLaughlin, Jerry Ciauri, etc. That had a lot of similar traits to a "farm team" - young, violent associates that had various beefs with other crews in the neighborhood.
In the end, however, most inductions happen from associates that have been "on-record" for (sometimes) decades, like the recent inductions we've seen in the Colombo family - Jerry Ciauri (inducted in 2013) was first proposed for membership in 1991, and Vito Difalco (inducted in 2016) was a close friend of William Cutolo in the 1990s. Reynold Maragni (inducted in 2008) was on-record with the Colombo underboss in the 1980s, and Big Anthony Russo & Joseph Savarese (inducted in 2011) were both on-record since the 1980s.

Re: Mafia recruits
And also in this era of today they’ll recruit anybody. Spanish, Greek, Albanian, Irish, Black it don’t matter cause they are so greedy and disorganized and wanting to keep up the money flow that they don’t look at that anymore. Years ago they checked your background making sure if you were full blooded Italian and wanting to know all your history. It wasn’t easy back then originally it was either you were straight from Sicily or you were American born Sicilian with roots coming from Sicily such as parents or grandparents then they changed it to being strictly just Italian hailing from the North or south. It was Gotti that changed it during the 1980’s where your mother can be any ethnicity and your father had to be Italian as long as you had an Italian Surname. But years back they had a lot of Italian American Street Gangs that they use to recruit from. Today they are probably just focusing on anybody the can make money with and even though the Italian communities changed there still are Italians around its just not like it once was

Re: Mafia recruits
And yes gohnjotti there’s still a lot Associates out there that have been around for years and on record with a family. These guys do get proposed because of there loyalty and years around the organization. But most of these Italian American kids today are going to college becoming doctors and lawyers. Years back a lot of these people chose that path and dropped out of school cause they didn’t know any better it was a different time frame.

Re: Mafia recruits
Just remembered the Bonanno’s Bronx crew also has a group of younger members such as Ernest Aiello and Johney Joe Jr. The crew could have some pretty serious guys since it was implicated in the Seccafico homicide.

Re: Mafia recruits
Two Italian American street gangs that I could remember that were totally independent were the Kings High Way Boys In gravesend and The 10th And Oregon crew in south philly. Whatever street crimes they did together such as drug dealing etc they kept everything for themselves.

Re: Mafia recruits
The thing today is The LCN isn’t as power as they once were and there’s no more old school tradition and discipline no more. There best bet is to recruit from Sicily or Blood relatives that are capable and reliable.

Re: Mafia recruits
Look at when Beeps the Captain from The Jersey Mob was busted along with his son and pals a few years ago. His son and his friends were under beeps and they were young 30 somethin year old wannabe black gangsta rappers and that’s supposed to be one of the oldest crime families in America known for there traditional and old school way of operating. That’s an embarrassment to the family having these Eminem wannabes being connected to the family

Re: Mafia recruits
The Italian American Mafia has gone way downhill like everything else in this Country. The good thing is that Italian Americans seem to be so very successful and fully assimilated into American Culture, that the Italian Mafia would be like joining a sinking ship. Only some low life American White Trash asshole would want to join what ever is left of it. The recruiting pool, as you mentioned, is very dismal to say the least.NinoFromNYC2 wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2019 5:49 pm Super the quality of guys from a scale of 1 to 10 is like a 2. The best bet for New York would be to recruit Zips.

Re: Mafia recruits
Exactly that’s why street Gangs are taking over because the Mafia has already been exposed once they make a new recruit the F.B.I. Or the organized crime task force all ready knows before everyone else There’s no secret anymore it’s a big joke. The Mob is a brand today it sells movies, books, TV Shows, merchandise they even have a mob museum. Anyone getting involved in a crime family has a big bullseye on there head not from The Organization but from The F.B.I. And a stoolie that’s wearing a wire

Re: Mafia recruits
Italian Americans don't need the Mafia. It has outgrown its usefulness. Like you said, it is a BRAND that sells books and movies about what use to be which is practically long gone in 2019.NinoFromNYC2 wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2019 6:35 pm Exactly that’s why street Gangs are taking over because the Mafia has already been exposed once they make a new recruit the F.B.I. Re: Mafia recruits
For sure 100 percent and with all these wannabes today. It’s funny cause you’d walk around and see some guy that’s a nobody making himself sound like a somebody. You aren’t going to come across an actual real Mafioso today cause they don’t exist anymore majority of them are dead. I’m a proud Italian American that’s lives the truth I can only speak for myself
